Histogram image

Press the up or down arrows on the multi-function selector button on the back of the camera to cycle through the various display functions until you get the one you want. The histogram display usually shows when you have unintentionally pressed one of the arrow buttons accidentally.

Can I remove histogram which apears on screen when taking a photo? It is distracting!

While the histogram can be distracting, it can be very useful to ensure that your image is well composed and the lighting is good.

To remove the histogram, put the camera in video or picture taking mode, press the up arrow (disp) key to cycle through three different display types: Histogram + indicators on (where you are now), nothing but the picture (where you want to be) and picture with indicators. Indicators include battery charge state, image quality, etc. Not needed while taking pictures, but nice to be able to take a look.

See page 33 of the manual for your camera.

Blue and red squares over my image

A histogram is a graphic representation of the distribution of brightness values in an image. The C-5500 has two histograms. One displays a real-time graph on the LCD screen as you compose your images and during the Quick View of images after they are shot. The DIRECT histogram displays potentially over and under-exposed areas in the image with a grid of squaresā€”red for over-exposure and blue for under-exposure. You can set the histogram to OFF to prevent the histogram from appearing.
