Nikon N65 with Nikkor 35~80mm AF lens will not focus or shoot

Camera: N65 with Nikkor 35~80mm AF lens (works on N55 and F75) set to f/22 and fresh batteries (tried both new CR-2, correct polarity, and MB-17 with brand new AA alkalines). Problem: no AF, shutter release. If the AF/MF switch is set to MF and focusing is correct (green light in viewfinder) the camera still not fire the shutter - in any mode (PSAM or Auto). No errors in top LCD. Ideas on troubleshooting?

Hey friend have you tried using any external devices such as glidecam or something like that, like as this thing is capable to improve autofocus expense of declining shaking, I remember read something like that on https://gimbalgarage.com/best-glidecam-f.... But in any case I advise you to check it yourself, maybe your problem is easier to solve than you think.

N65s were notorious for bad shutter release buttons. The metal is thinner than a strand of hair and they break. Search Ebay and see if the part is available to replace (note: Nikon stopped selling parts last year).

Why wont my Nikon af nikkor 70-300mm G lens autofocus its self with my D5000 camera

The D5000 does not have a focus motor in the body, relying on the lens to have one. The old 70-300mm G lens does not have a focus motor, relying on the camera to have one. Thus, this combination will not autofocus.
The newer 70-300mm AF-S G lens, as well as the even newer 70-300mm VR AF-S lens, do have the autofocus motor and thus will autofocus on the D5000.

My Nikon N55 will not auto focus.

Depending on the type of interchangeable lens you have mounted on the camera, there may be a switch on the lens barrel for choosing between auto-focus or manual focus. The N55 also will not auto-focus with the newer Nikon AFS lenses such as those used with the Nikon D40 digital slr. Finally, there was a service bulletin on the N55 back in 2005. Nikon discovered a problem with the auto-focus and fixed it for free, but there may have been a time limit. Here is a link to more info about that:

Hope this helps : -)

ON DISPLY, APERTURE SHOW fEE AND DONT SHOOT

In all but aperture priority mode and manual modes you must set this lens to it's minimum aperture setting (i.e. highest number) to allow the camera body to fully control the aperture for you.

You'll also get this problem when using certain Nikon bodies which rely solely on electronic communication of the lens settings to the camera body (e.g. Nikon F75) as they lack the ability to read the mechanical linkages on the rear of the lens.

Nikkor af-s 18-200 VR not focusing

Please check your focus settings in the camera menu. Play around with the focus point from Single to 11 points. Also, try Auto mode as a quick way to test if the focus is working

Auto Focus Nikon N65

amyfesh,
I have been finding a lot of these concerns while looking back at unsolved SLR issues, it shoots at the ceiling or the sky because there is just enough light the camera detects. Check the lens ring for a white dot and the ring for the aperture rotate the ring so the red f-stop (usually in red and f-22 or somewhere near that number) align, now the lens will open enough to allow the light that the camera has determined that it needs, now it will allow the shutter to open. I just joined the fixya in December, so I hope to hear from you if this helped and if you have any other questions about the N65.
