Most common cause is a bad heater element. Best bet is replace the unit.

Okay, When going away most people empty the tank completely. When returning you must start it as if brand new out of the box. Follow the MFR's instructions for an initial fill and heating.
Some don't empty but just unplug just as you did. Places like Arizona with very low humidity can dry out or lower the tank water where the heating element is not in water. This element will overheat and trip out the thermal fuse.
**Another scenario is the empty unit was plugged in and heating while someone was going to get the water. Over heat then blows fuse.
** The "Vacation" switch is very visible so you probably have tried it already and you have already checked the outlet and breakers. Still looks like a thermal fuse problem.
** Switches do go bad as they are turned on and off daily. Possible yours was bad before but never noticed as it was never turned off till on vacation.
** There are other possible scenarios but all point to a thermal fuse, thermal limit, blown fuse, switch, Heater element, or cut wire (Mice). All are electrical problems and require a MFR tech. Contact your vendor or MFR for service.

There is a couple things can cause this to happen.

Number one make sure you have nothing else added recently on that circuit, where you have had your machine plugged in. If something was added on that circuit, something that is always running like a fridge, that could be overloading the circuit, sense coffee machines use a huge amount of power at start up. If your sure nothing of that sort has changed then next is:

Number two, make sure you have cleaned the machine, you know descaling and making sure there is no restrictions. If this is good, then next is:

Number three, it appears you can have a short. The heating element going bad in the coffee maker. If the thermostat or heating element is pulling more power boost then normal because its going bad or a short this will trip the breaker. What I would first do, is run yourself a extension cord from another outlet that for sure is not on same breaker. If that breaker blows, then you know for sure it is the machine that is causing this, then we are back to the heating element or thermostat on off regulator.

The unit is not getting power. If the receptacle is protected by a GFI, then press the Reset button. Otherwise, check that the circuit breaker (or fuse) to that receptacle isn't tripped.

Every time I plug in my bunn coffee maker, it trips the GFI. But when I plug it into another plug in my kitchen, it will work, but it seems like the water reserve is not right. It blows too much steam and the top starts lifting up from the pressure of the steam, then it starts leaking out the top left side. Then if I pour enough water to make 10 cups, it only makes 6 or 8. The coffee maker is only 3 years old, what should I do?

Check the elements first, also check the hi-limit switch and the thermostat, then check the elements the machine might have been low on water at one point.

The water doesn't come into direct contact with the heating element. The only way to know the cause of the problem is to use a multimeter and test the circuitry.

Coffee makers have a heating unit in them which draw a lot of current. If it is on the same circuit as refrigerator, toaster and other it will trip the breaker. Also, some breakers are more sensitive than others. Have an electrician run a separate circuit for the coffee maker outlet. Try running it in the dining room outlet, which I hope is separate from the kitchen outlets. Is the house old? Older homes have a lot of mixed up wiring.
