Sometimes the switch in the door latch sticks. Mine did that and I ust closed the door with just a slight more force and everything started working fine.
Otherwise, if the internal cooling fan is not running when you are cooking, it will shut down after 30-60 seconds or so and stay off until it cools back down.

Check the door switches if one is bad it may think the door is being opened and stop the unit from running. If it is from a bad connection it will get worse as it gets hotter while running.
Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.
