no reset, the infred led inside the unit are bad and need to be replaced common problem, they are located on the ends of the tape mech.
SOURCE: VCR tape won't eject
The flap on the door stays open until the tape is ejected. There are two possible ways to remove the tape. First, with the power off, try to locate the drive pulley or gear on the side of the tape housing. It may be possible to turn it with your finger and cause the tape to eject. The eject mechanism will move VERY slowly when you use this technique.
The second way to do it should normally be done by an experienced technician, because it involves taking it even farther apart...and it may be difficult to reassemble. There are typically four screws that hold the tape mechanism in place...two near the top front and two near the back. It should be possible to remove those screws and pull the entire mechanism out of the VCR. Then you can more easily rotate the eject pulley (or gear) and remove the tape. If this sounds a little scary, I would definitely recommend placing the top back on and acting like nothing happened!

SOURCE: How can I view hi8 video tapes on my VCR My HI 8
VHS units are not capable of reading Hi8 video. You could have a shop transfer your recordings for a nominal service charge but if you have many tapes you may want to have your own unit repaired. You could purchase another unit second hand but be wary of doing so as the tracking could be slightly different to your own one and you would need a service centre to adjust it anyway. Best of luck!
