For the issue with your ribbons take the spool and wrap a section of it about half way around the pulling portion and use some duct tape to place it on it securely. then take the same portion and rotate it a few times as to wrap the ribbon around it at least three to four times making sure it is snug all the while. that should remedy the spooling tension issue. Sorry I can't help with the printing issue. try updating the driver and if that doesn't work try replacing the printing head as it may be defective now. The Z4000 are old school, ours just broke down as well and we called tech support, the guy laughed when he heard we had one in use and thought I was joking... :(
To those who are not explicate in their wording such as ZachW, please if you are going to post a question and look for an answer for FREE make sure to not come across as asinine. We all appreciate when those looking for help state exactly what they mean rather then beating around the bush and trying to get away with giving minimal information. P.S. You were like 10 feet away, ****.

Um...Mcsuber...I know about the call because I was feet away when you made it! XD. Anyway, for anyone besides my sometimes bumbling compatriot, the problem is not that I cannot attach the ribbon to the spindle, it's that the spindle seems to be broken, having lost the ability to hold tension and pull the ribbon on it. To clarify, my question is if it is possible to take apart, replace, or somehow otherwise fix the ribbon take-up spindle.
