No volume on HP desktop M1090N. Cant find out what to do to fix problem.

Check to confirm if any audio hardware has been installed and make sure the driver of the hardware is also installed, otherwise you will need an external speaker

External speakers don't work but internal speaker works fine.

Try your speakers on another system to make sure speakers are working.

Make sure volume control on PC is not set on mute.

Make sure onboard sound is enabled in BIOS

Try re-installing the sound card driver.

If all this fails and you have a spare slot on your PC just purchase a new sound card for about $10.00 or so.

I agree, it does sound like it is on its last leg. Keep the settings on low and run it til it dies!
