Mitsubishi Light Engine

I have a 62" Mitsubishi DLP (62535) tv. It recently began having vertical lines the entire length of the screen about 1.5" apart, with the exception of the last 6". I had a service guy come out at $180.00 and he told me it was the light engine. He told me he would call me with an estimate. When he called back he said it was $1092 if i brought it in and $1925 if they came and picked it up.

If found a light engine online and for $359.95 and am wondering how difficult it is to install. I am mechanically incline, but have very little experience with electronics. It there any luck that this is a simple plug and screw in or is there several things that require soldering???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Discolored Sides

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens.Ths if your tv is a dlp if its a Lcd it will be an issue with your light engine: Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!

Picture getting darker over the years

It could be your Light Engine. However, I would first check a few things:

1. Make sure your Low Power/Lamp settings are adjusted so that they meet your brightness needs.

2. Make sure you used a Mitsubishi original lamp, as generics get chewed through fast and hard.

3. Try another lamp; sometimes you can get a bad one in the bunch.

All those things don't work, consider a Light Engine ($400 + for parts; $300+ for labor)

Mitsubishi WD-62825 vertical lines, blue snow, picture jumping

I have the same problem with my tv, my tv tech said mitsubishi knows of the problem and knows how to fix it, but it would cost me 700.00 plus his labor to take out the chassis and send it in to mitsubishi, plus I would be without a tv for up to a month. this is b.s.

Vertical line down the center of screen

A WD62827 is a V30+ chassis and is a DLP format projection screen Tv, not a flat screen, am I missing something?? For the symptoms you're describing with a WD62827 remove and reseat the DVI cable between the chassis and optical engine. If removing and reseating the DVI cable does not resolve the issue you may need to replace the Optical Engine part # 938P019020
BTW the current software version for this unit is 7.04.1F if you have anything less you might think about updating the software also..
Hope this helps!

DLP TV: Left half normal, vertical 6" band center is gray, right half almost black. What's wrong?

No. The optical engine is OK. You need an adjustment in the light tunel. Call a tech to do it.
