I had purchased item and was able to retrieve 85% of my photos and data that was on a portable hard drive 320gb and didnt think of loosing all data of it not responding through usb,had 5000 photos of my family and other personal data it was a night mare ,i had search web sites galore and came across a program call easeus which gave me 1 gb for free which still applies on their site,if you have more than 1 gb you would have to pay $69.95 for a full recovery of data it works and will reteive the information on e/hard drive some files on the e/hard drive are corrupt this is why usb wont reconize external, try this site www.easeus.com and download and save to desktop, then it will show you were you wish to recover data have external plugged into usb and this program will reconize external. It was worth more than $69.95 because it was a lifesaver of family memories.

Assuming you've already tried using it on another PC or Mac (as appropriate) with any needed software installed, and that didn't work, your next DIY step is to remove it from the container.

If you can remove it (most drive makers do not publish the instructions to disassemble their equipment), you can hook the drive up inside most PC (not laptop) cases directly (if they have the required IDE or SATA connection), or take it to your local PC store for a quick test.

As a last resort, you can sent it to a "disk or drive recovery" company to get some or all of your data back if it hasn't been lost to a surface defect on the disk. This is usually a fairly expensive option.

Lost my USB stick at my school in chestermere

Cannot help much with the one you lost, except if your have pre-backup for your USB, you might have some old data to refer.

Suggest in future you should conside the USB sticks that have:
1. SyncBack - is a good tool to allow you to perform backup USB data to your own computer (or vice versa). You may either install the software in your PC, or have the "no install" version in your USB storage device to backup to other places when you on the move.

2. Biometrics fingerprint recognition USB - This is not for recover your data, but to keep save your data that important away from others to view it, if they got hold of your USB. This type of USB cost is slightly higher (and slightly slower) due to data can be encrypted on written USB, with only recognize your fingerprint (or password, in case your fingerprint not working properly).

3. 3rd online storage portable apps - If you are out side with internet access to the computer, you may use online storage as your 1st (store everything online) or 2nd (store for backup only) line for your data. Example: Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive portable softwares.

Hope this post helps.

Sony walkman is not being recognized by XP as a portable device

I remembered that I had another problem with Windows Media 11 that seemed impossible to fix until I found somewhere that uninstalling or rolling back WM11 to the previous version then reinstalling fixed the issue. I decided to give that a try with this problem we're having and sure enough it worked. The Walkman is now recoginized as a Portable Device under Device Manager and in My Computer it is displayed as a Walkman and not a removable disk.

All you have to do is use add/delete software, delete or rollback WM 11 and then either use the Sony disc with WM11 or download a new version. All together it only took a few minutes and I'm back in business. No music or playlists were lost. Try it and let me know if it works for you.
