Sony HDR-HC3 LCD touchscreen blacked-out.

About 3 months ago, my LCD screen on my Sony HDR-HC3 started tinting really red. Now it does not have any picture. The touchscreen still has sensitivity. I can close the LCD screen and the what should show, appears in the viewfinder. Would like to get it fixed for less than the $500 Sony is asking. Any Ideas is appreciate.

Hi, I have the exact same problem with my HC3. Screen started getting pink, then red and getting worse. Have you found a solution to the problem yet? Thanks

I have the same problem, screen went red then about a month later went black. If I rotate the screen so its on the outside when flat against the camcorder side, it works OK so I'm living with that for now, but you can't use the corder in the normal way for recording viewing the screen. All other functions are OK.

I have the problem, but not the solution.

    Sony HDR HC3 1080i

I have taken the back off the screen (4 screws), and then the plastic printed bus fell out of its connector, and the whole screen was then off the 'corder, not connected. i then got it back in by sliding the forn to the connector forwards (the brown bit) sliding the plastci strip connectior back in and pushing the brown clip back into the PCB connector. I connected tot eh hinge, put the cover back on and put the 4 screws back in. that got me back to where I started, i.e. the screen only works when folded flat to the case and screen facing outwards.

Hi all, i live in France and i have found the solution. You need to repair the SONY FP-412 FLEXIBLE BOARD ! Go there to download the official sony instructions :http://www.eserviceinfo.com/downloadsm/4... then you have to display the 5 pages to get all the".rar" multipart files (click number from 0 to 4), click the botom button to get 1 file, then click again... Unrar the PDF file and go to page 24 to read the instructions.

You can buy the FP-412 for sony hdr-hc3 on this website (tip hdr-hc3) :
    http://www.signalsuk.com/signalsuk.nsf/P...

I hope it will be helpfull for everybody !

    Enjoy !

Hi, I have the same Problem with my HC3. This July the screen started to go funny and then now only works once its fully opend and flipped against the body. the touch screen did not work, As I had tapes to be transfered I needed to get the camera in to play mode and access the menu. I had no choice but to gentnly removed the LCD cover and tightend the connections and the touch screen now started to work. As I move the creen forward the image goes off and once? Looks like its a common problem as I see many having thesame issue. I feel it could be a loose connection inside but cant open and loose whats left working as it is still usable without the screen.
Thanks
BUD

I've experienced the very same problem a couple of days ago. Can't believe my bad luck cause I'll be going on holiday in a couple of weeks. I've seen a technican this morning and he advised me to purchase two parts. They're the 186992511 PWB FP-412 Flexible and the A1174647A Mounted C.Board FP-372. I've keeping my fingers crossed and pray that he's right.

Yes mine too. Did any of us have a solution for this yet. Mine still working for all functions but only annoying looking screen. I believe it's some thing loose inside the twist post - Area that connecting the screen to camera body.

Hi, I had the same problem as described above. I purchased the Sony FP-412 Flexible Board and with the help of the service manual above I replaced the FP-412. It took me +/- 3 hours to do the replacement (first time job and I took my time). Everything is working fine now, all colors are back. Thanks to 'onfre' for the tips, it helped me a lot.

It says the following:

Hi..

The problem was a missing MSDV.SYS file.

Actually, on the Sony site it says that no additional drivers are required to connect the camera in Windows XP, Vista, or 7.

But, the user of this camera and firewire noted that he was having trouble convincing windows of this.

Another link that talks about the firewire problem follows:

You can find more links by searching under 'HDR-HC3 firewire driver' or related searches to find the solution to your problem.

I hope this helps.
