It may be the bake element that has gone out. The self clean usually uses the broil element to heat the oven. And most oven will either put 120 volts to the broil element while baking or pulse the broil element while baking. This will cause the oven to get warm but not hot. Check the oven bake element it cound be bad or a wire may have burned off.

The control switch may be bad on it. If there are 2 elements on the top, they both are not bad at the same time.Check to see if the wires have not burned off the control switch first. Check to see if your breakers are O.K. Turn them both(maybe 3) off and then reset.

SOURCE: after self cleaning the oven, now the oven won't heat up

Usually this is caused by either a bad temperature sensor, a shorted wiring harness, or commonly a faulty controller. The temperature sensor and wiring can be checked with an ohm meter.

When you program the oven for a high temperature what does the display read after ten minutes or so?

Gaggenau oven not self cleaning.

The self cleaning features only serves to keep manufacturers in steady sales of parts. Quite simply the oven can only take those temperatures a few times until they break. The heat burns out elements, damages fans, door locks and worst of all damages control boards which are not far enough from the heat source. It sounds like your control board is fried. Try turning it of at the breaker for 15 minutes by way of a reset.

Never use the self cleaning feature as stated here

No heat on convection or self clean

If you have been using the self clean feature, you have probably burned out or damaged the connections to the fan and the convection fan element or thermistor. NEVER EVER use the self clean feature.

Self clean will not switch to oven temperature

About 6 times a week we see 'Self Clean' cycles that break ovens. Try removing the mains plug or turning off the breaker for an hour. If that doesn't fix it, you will need a service call on you mystery make appliance. It could be the thermostat burnt out or the control board frazzled.

Self Clean oven temperature is about 880 degrees Fahrenheit.
Self-Clean Ovens
The oven is cleaned by heat, at temperatures above normal cooking temperatures. During the cleaning cycle the oven is heated to about 880 degrees Fahrenheit (471° C.). At this temperature, food soils inside the oven decompose, leaving behind a small amount of ash.

When using the self cleaning function on my oven the outside of the oven gets so hot you cannot touch it. Can this heat cause the wooden cabinet surround to catch on fire?

Self cleaning ovens clean at a temperature exceeding 900 °F. The doors get way too hot to touch until they cool, but tg h ef cabinet sides and back are equipped with additional thicknesses of special high-temperature insulation. This is required for the oven to pass the clearances requirements.

If your concerned, the minimum required clearances (the required separation from the sides and back of the oven cabinet to the surrounding combustible construction) is stated in inches. Also the minimum clearance over the cooktop).

This information is specified on the listing label. The label is required to be visible after installation, that is, under the cooktop (if the cooktop cover is removable), or (more commonly), on inside the cabinet visible when you open the bottom drawer.

Ideally your oven has a 0" clearance requirement, but there may be a separation of x inches. This space must remain clear to prevent overheating combustible construction.

Never run a self cleaning cycle whilrvyour gone of sleeping. While generally safe, the danger of a fire is expediently higher during the cleaning cycle. (It may also set off your smoke alarm as the food particles burn into ash).

Oven won't heat

You may have a blown thermal fuse in series with the heating elements. If the oven exceeded the maximum allowable temperature during self-clean, the fuse will open. See this discussion:

Lock would not open after cleaning process has been canceled, oven is still hot

Don't open or try to open the oven door, until it has cooled down completely. The oven heats to a very hot temperature, usually 800 to 900 degrees. The door locks itself once it gets to a certain temperature, and will not allow the door to be opened until it cools below a certain temperature. On some units, this can take hours to cool down enough to unlock. If you try to force it before the cooldown is complete, it usually results in a repair call. If it still will not unlock when it is cool, turn your power to the oven off for 20 minutes, then turn on and reset your oven controls. Sometimes you have to put the oven back into the self-cleaning cycle, and then cancel it immediately to cycle the oven door lock. If it still won't unlock, call a repair company out to service this. Self cleaning oven help

There is nothing wrong with cleaning a self-cleaning oven. Now, I don't have experience with your speicific oven, but I do have experience with other self-cleaning ovens. The self-clean function simply heats the oven up really hot. The actual temperature varies but the oven will get hotter than the hottest temperature setting. What happens is that when it get that hot it actually burns up spilled food and crumbs. sometimes in mine I even see small flames. The oven usually requires you to lock it as well since the temperature will be so high. Eventually you have to clean out the burnt "ashes" which are basically the stuff you get on food if you burn it. So the answer to what happens if you clean the oven is that you get a clean oven, nothing else. It won't hurt the oven at all. As a matter of fact even if you use the self-cleaning feature you will eventually have to clean out the "burnt crumbs" and such by hand anyway. So self-cleaning oven are designed to be cleaned by hand as well. And you won't hurt it by doing so even if you did it every day.
