The problem is that the rubber below the number keypad has actually gotten weak or faded away if i must say, just have it exchanged_by that i mean they will add some more rubber so that when you press the button it simply functions, it is not a big problem as such, find a phone technician and they will correct the rubber plate below your keypads okay.

I had the same problem with my slvr.I removed the battery and took a hair dryer adnspent many hours slowly drying phone.Been working for two years now!
Yes, both the external keypad and the PCB assembly are relaceable. Here is one that I found online for $59 and change. http://www.cellulardr.com/0171038A01.htm . If you visit some other online resources you may find an instructional video on how to replace the PCB assembly and the tools required. Hope that helps.
