Minolta dimage 7i powers up all functions but lcd and viewfinder are blank

I have a Konica Minolta Dimage X20 which LCD and viewfinder are black or blank when you switcch on, although existing pictures taken can be shown in the LCD screen. What is the problem? what should be repaired or replaced? or maybe there are steps to be taken to correct this? Pls nfotify me what your solution is at my e-mail add jgohawthorne @ aol.com. Thanks

Wow, what a shock to find this ! My camera ( Dimage 7Hi ) has this exact problem. I just initiated the process with Sony. March 31 '08 deadline, yes not a moment too soon. Thank you so very much for that post t00nz. That's money.

You both are in luck. This sounds like a defective Sony CCD issue. Sony will fix your Minolta camera for free (with free shipping) regardless of warranty. You need to do this before March 31, 2008 so get going! See this link:

This is part of a known problem with the SONY image sensors that operate the lcd. There is in fact a recall that will replace the bad componets. You need to contact SONY for repairs. Check out this website to learn more about your problem. http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html

What is the Digital Effects Control (DEC)?

With this function, you can adjust exposure, contrast, and saturation through the viewfinder itself, prior to image capture. You can check how your adjustments will look using either the viewfinder or the LCD monitor. This feature makes it easy to get the unique images you want in many different shooting situations. DiMAGE 7i is capable of setting contrast, color saturation and filter in the following increments. Contrast: In seven levels from -3 to +3 Color Saturation: In seven levels from -3 to +3 Filter: In seven levels ranging from warm (reddish) to cool (bluish) colors.

What is the focusing screen display?

There are two display modes newly added for the DiMAGE 7i, grid and scale. The grid mode is to show a grid over the entire screen. This makes it easy to align the camera to objects vertically or horizontally. In the scale display mode, horizontal and vertical lines cross at the image center to divide the view to four sections, and each axis is scaled. This function is useful for close-up photography. The grid or scale on display is not recorded.

images are saved in the following format. Econ / Standard / Fine: JPEG (.jpg) Super Fine: TIFF (.tif) RAW: RAW (.mrw) Movie: Motion JPEG (.mov) Audio recording: WAVE (.wav) Symbols in brackets represent the file extension. Thumbnail data (.thm) is also saved for TIFF, Movie and RAW files.

What is the number of recorded pixels on the DiMAGE 7i?

The DiMAGE 7i has four different image size settings; Full 2560x1920, UXGA 1600x1200, XGA 1280x960 and VGA 640-480. The recorded pixel size in each mode is almost equivalent to an image captured with a 5 mega pixel, a 2 mega-pixel, 1.3 mega-pixel, 0.35 mega-pixel DSC respectively.

Yes, the eye-relief is approximately 20mm from the eyepiece lens and 17.5mm form the eyepiece frame.

I know this is an old post, but sounds like your CCD sensor is shot. Check out this link: http://dcviews.com/press/Konica-Minolta-Oct05.htm My camera did the same thing. It was 2years out of warranty, but Sony (now owns Konica-Minolta) asked me to send it in. When they could not fix it they gave me a brand new Sony Alpha DSLR-a100K!!!! Jid
