I have an Epson Artisan 835 printer/scanner and new Windows 8.1 computer. The printer is connected by wireless network to computer. Printing function works great between computer and printer. I can scan from printer/scanner to computer but not from computer like I used to do with my old Windows XP SP3 computer. I keep getting communications error with my new computer. What's wrong?
If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.
Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

You must set both devices to the same encrypryption protocol, WEP or WPA. That being said, I had to setup my router using WEP - the printer refused to connect via WPA. Good luck.

Did you ever get a resolution to your problem? I have exactly the same problem with same error message - and very loud clicking noises coming from the scanner. Powering it down - allowing it to "cool" for 5 minutes will get probably 1 or 2 documents through the scanner before the error message reappears. But this is only a workaround rather than a solution.
