I have a Belkin Wireless adaptor and a wireless router. The netgear adaptor I had before on my desktop got borken so I replaced with a Belkin adaptor. The new Belkin adaptor is not recognizing the wireless router...not getting IP address assigned even though it recognizes the wireless network. Tried almost everything. How can this be fixed? please help.

Hi, did you provide the network key/password when you setup the wireless conection on your computer? Is it detecting your wireless router (you should see your SSID or network name) when you click on your wireless icon (in the taskbar) and chose "show wireless connections". If you can acess to your router via it's configuration page(type the router's default IP address in your browser) you can go check the settings and change the key/passphrase if you dont remember it. If all of this is not working, you can also start from stratch. Reset the router to factory settings (check your manual) then reconfigure it the way you want, put the new infos in your wireless network connections properties and try again. let me know with more specific details if you still cant do it

I have bought my two grandchildren a lap top and would like the to have internet they have internet on the computor in their home and have been told to get the adaptor it says the laptops have no wireless...

If both of the computers do not have wireless capabilities, then you will have to purchase an adaptor for each. See a picture here:

You mentioned that the home computer has internet but you must implement wireless internet into the home by adding a router. See picture:

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=136493

This hooks directly to the modem box that was provided by your internet service and makes the connection become wireless.

This can be quite costly, I recommend checkiing eBay for the router and two adaptors as this can save you money.

PS I put Belkin brand but there are different brands such as Linksys, netgear, etc. With Neatgear being cheaper and Linksys being more expensive.

Trying to create a bridge with two routers

You do not need a bridge if you are using a wireless adaptor on your pc in the other room. Just set up the Belkin Plus router to the WEP security settings you want and make sure the pc wireless usb adaptor has the same settings as the router. You should be good to go. Good Luck.

Low signal from my wireless adaptor / router

Have you tried connecting the laptop in a different wireless network? Try changing the channel in your router and you may also upgrade the firmware of your router.

I use a belkin wireless adaptor for connecting my PC to the wireless router of trendnet, i observed that belkin adaptor does not work with standard windows wireless networking , i downloaded a separate suite provide by belkin for the purpose and voila- even my 8 yr old son and now reconnect if connection is broken :)

Security problems

You are looking for the WEP key that is configured on your router. Use your PC that's connected via ethernet, go to the config web page for the router and somewhere on the wireless security settings you will find the WEP key that was configured for your wireless network.
