SOURCE: tried it on 3 computers and they can't

Then that stick has died, junk it. USB sticks wore out every time you use them, that one has probably reached its end of life.Next time make sure that you have a backup if you store sensitive data on one of them.

SOURCE: i cant format or put

Some Verbatims have a write protection switch on its side - make sure it's not activated. Then open the properties of the stick in My Computer. If in there the stick isn't set as read only then it has died - there's nothing more you can do to save it. Junk it and get a new one.

Sandisk 16gb memory stick is in write protected

This could be a Windows Registry setting that disables you from writing to your flash drive (or formatting it). If you are running Windows after Win XP SP2, you can change that setting.
To disable the write protection:
1.From the Start menu, click "Run", type "regedit", and press <Enter> or click <OK>.
    2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > StorageDevicePolicies.
3.Double click on "WriteProtect" and change the value to 0 (WriteProtect = 0 for disabled; 1 for enabled).
4.Close the registry editor and restart Windows.
5.After Windows starts, test writing to your USB drive.
    Important Note:
Serious problems might occur if you modify the Windows registry incorrectly. **PLEASE** make sure that you follow these steps *exactly* and *carefully*. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it in case you have trouble so it can be restored.
For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps as in the KB Article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/

Accidentally switched my sandisk memory to 'lock'

Locking the card simply protects it from writes. It does not wipe out anything that was on it already.

If you're asking about a Memory Stick, there's a switch on the back. Slide it away from the "LOCK" position. If you're asking about an SD card, there's a switch on the side. Slide it toward the metal contacts.

you can remove the write protection status by inserting it to your camera and in the preview mode click the button menu, in that scroll down for options and you can see there the option for protection on or off. toggle that option.thanks for using fixya!. please dont forget to rate my solution.

Sandisk cruzer 2.0

Hey,

you can copy files into the memory stick by first finding the files you want to back up, right click on them and copy, then open the memory card from my computer and right click and paste, the file will be copied and its now 'backed up' on the memory stick.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse
