you can try pulling the screen apart and re-seating the ribbon cable, but the lcd might be broken, or one of the controller lcd chips might either be cracked or broken. Trying to reseat the lcd ribbon cable might help, but if there is a visible crack in the screen- you will need a new screen.

Unless the hidden partitian has been written over or it has been corrupt...
Hit Alt-F10 as soon as you see the Acer logo when booting. If the recovery partitian does not display...then you must purchase an operating system and do it the old fashion way.

To format your laptop you need to insert a windows installation disc into the drive, restart the machine and before windows loads up you should see a "press anykey to boot from cdrom"
press key and follow the instructions, it will give you the option to format the laptop before it reinstalls it again.
