After months of use, your printer might get the habit of stopping in the middle of a page and showing "Hardware Error 0502" on the LCD display. If you leave the printer alone for a while, it might start printing again. Then again, it might not. Pretty annoying.
The Lexmark support site will let you power off, remove the power cord for 30 seconds, take out the cartridges and fiddle with some encoder strip. This whole procedure might take you up to 30 minutes and it will not help (been there, done that).
On the multi function machine seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe this rod with a kleenex and the problem seems to go away. Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error.
Clean that with a paper towel. The towel will be black from ink residue, but you will be able to print again.

Hi there Dell Printer 944 error message 1102 Please unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Now plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has. Now open the printer with the power on and the cartridges should go to the center to be replaced. Take out both Dell Series 5 ink cartridges and make sure the tape is off the cartridges and insert both back in and make sure the seat properly and latch. Close the printer and it should print an alignment page. If you still get the error message Why does my Dell ink cartridge level still show up as "low ink" after refilling them? Dell ink cartridges have a sensor that reports the ink level as low once it reaches a certain level. The sensor can not be reset. If you refill an ink cartridge that previously reported low ink, it may print fine, but the sensor will always report low ink. Buying or replacing ink cartridges with new Dell cartridges will resolve the low ink message. Dell discourages ink refills. Refilling ink may lead to print quality problems, and even eventual hardware problems. This post is in no way a validation of refilling ink cartridges. Why my printer is reporting “low ink" after using refilled/remanufactured ink cartridges? Most ink cartridges have sensors that report the ink level. The “Low Ink” is usually the last sensor (fuse) before running out of ink. Since the sensors are fuses that open when the ink level drops, they cannot be reset. If you are using refill or remanufactured ink cartridges, the best thing to do is to disable “ink alerts” on the printer’s software so you don’t keep getting “low ink” messages. To disable “Ink Alerts” on Dell inkjet printers: 1.Open the Dell printer software (All-In One Center, Tool Box, etc) 2.Go to Settings 3.Advanced 4.More Options 5.In the “Appearance Mode, window, check “Never display the Printing Status window” and “Display the low ink alert only when the cartridges are almost empty. Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Hey do a power drain by removing all the cables from the rear of the printer and then hold the power button on the printer of 15-20seconds with all the cable out connecting the printer... Then power on the printer if you still see the error code message displayed on the printer display screen do a nozzle clean in the computer, check on if the printer prints the nozzle clean test page perfectly. If not remove the cartridges and clean the nozzle of the cartridges with a clean cloth and be careful so that you do not destroy the copper contacts, clean the same you see on the carrier(where you place on the cartridges). I think this should work. If not call in technical support.
Error code 1203 means that you have a print head short error. The way to fix this is to: 1) Clean the contacts on the cartridge w/ a damp cloth. Only do it in one direction so that you're not smearing ink all over the contacts! 2) Disconnect and then reconnect the power cord from the wall and from the back of the printer. Wait about 30 seconds, and then plug everything back in. If this doesn't work, you may need to replace the ink cartridges...you can always try it one more time just to be sure
Can you pull out the catridges and make sure you have taken the plastic off the gold strips properly. That can cause errors as there will be no connection to the printer. I hope it's a simple solution and this helps you
I would take out both cartridges and put them in again. Realign the printer and the error codes should remove themselves. Try turning the printer off and on before puting the cartridges in again. That may make a difference. You can let your computer know not to tell you when the ink is low too. Let me know how this work for you.
