Does my GPX MW3847 need to be on when I charge it?
I had my MP3 player plugged in overnight to charge and no luck. It did not have a charge. Does it need to be turned on or anything when charging? The HOLD button is off.

You should be able to just plug in the usb cable and it will charge automatically, if your computer has the drivers installed for it. you may be able to test it with a Motorla wall charger to see if the battery will even take a charge.

First, you need to ensure that the switch on the side is set to OFF...
then if you have Windows Media Player 9 and (Windows 2000 and before ie Windows ME/98) , Second, Hit the M Button and Make sure that you have the player set to USB
but then if you have Windows Media Player 10, 11 (Windows XP, Vista)
Hit the M Button and Make sure that you have the player set to MTP
and if you have no Windows Media Player ...
Hit the M Button and Make sure that you have the player set to USB
copy your music mp3 files using windows explorer or my computer
I have a gpx mw3847 and I load songs by opening up My Computer, finding my gpx mw3847 and opening it. Then I go to MY Music where I have my MP3 songs and just drag or copy the ones I want over to my Player. I don't use Windows media player to load songs no any of my players
I have Vista and when I open MY Computer after I've connected my gpx mw3847 it shows up as GPX (F:). I did not format it. If I right click on GPX (F:), the drop down menu shows a FORMAT item there. But I can drag or copy songs to it without having to format it. The (F:) stands for the drive letter so yours might be different.
There might be an issue with your headphones. Are you using the same headphones with both players? If not, buy new headphones. If so, your port might be going out.
