My HP Pavilion a000 is turning on, but has a black screen. I looked at the possible problems, and sure enough, some of the capacitors were leaking. Problem is, how do I replace these capacitors? Do I replace the motherboard entirely? And if so, what do I remove to save the memory/OS? Please help. Please, please help.

We are fixya not HP, so.... why ask here? and not HP real>?
OLD DESKTOP?: a000 is not the real model , only part.'
is this PC ,13 years old. ?
not even the word desktop stated once, wow.
my wild guess is it is a DT, due to super easy motherboard viewings. if not , say so please..

no full service tag stated, it has model and full p/n on it.
See my photo at end. (long post) lacking that.
HP made VAST pc with A000 , as part of much larger P/n
tag line 1 ,3 and 5 tells the helper what is REALLY there.
it even tells us if the parts are for USA. are you?

NO OS STATED in your post.
a000 is a very old PC and has the CAP disease, the china clone caps classical failure.. (well known) 1999 to 2003
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
so many questions, who fix it, why not just buy another newer PC, that has w7 on it already, the one that is not a virus magnet like XP. (or VISTA junk) W7/8/10 years.

you will not replace the caps easy, (takes special tools) {I can}
there are no new motherboards, HP does not sell things this old.
that leaves used, or (omg NOS) motherboards with the same useless China noname caps in it, why go there? avoid this and run from the box. (I would)

the unstated OS , is problematic here, XP will not let you change the mobo, and MS stopped taking calls in XP and VISTA>
so cant force activation that way, why go down this path.?
what I'd do is buy a usde PC with W7 coa sticker on this side
or newer' (COA is the OS license from MS)

for $100 or near, i can find a PC desktop. that is
vastly better that yours.
but if compelled to run bad motherboards same year.
then if I had your service tag , i could in fact point to them sold used, and be a match , exactly, the HP parts surfer lets me do that.(ask)_

first tell what OS is there? of the 14 used.
then post full service tag for 10x batter answers.
in 2006 HP added the new F11 key. started the year 2006
so if PC is that or newer the F11 recovery key works and you dont need any
HP (unstated) OS(unstated) install media (CDs)
see? how that service tag is magical?

what I'd do is get a newer PC. I bet yours is 2003 or older, i do.
here is the best solution for an upgrade.
id never buy any MOBO with those caps onboard. EVER.
here are some great whys to get a better machine
and not go broke.

LEGACY PAIN: my wild guess , is yours is here.?
off the HP legacy page? if use scrap it.

My HP Pavilion a000 is turning on, but has a black - tag_service1-1iohaobt0khnrlk3utl25c3h-4-0.jpg tell more and get x10 better responses !
Like do you need mobility?
do you need W10 or 64bit support. (be wise)
do you want the PC to last 10 more years? or 1 week.
what APPS do you run if any, or only use IE6 the virus magnet.
do you use the internet (LOL)
do you need the MS CLOUD.
the list is endless but this is basic.
did you ask friends if they have a used PC they don't want
or would sell for $10?

try remove and clean the memory and then fix it back, im sure that would resolve your problems. however if this not solve then your should replace the memory.

If affraid to do so, then maybe let the repairman do it for you.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion dv1000 works fine on CRT but no LCD screen

Sounds like the LCD backlight or inverter went bad. More probably the inverter, and that's good because,of the two, it's usually cheaper and easier to replace.
Before considering those, check the lid switch to make sure that it is operating correctly and not stuck down.

System bios on hp

model 21 is not a complete model number, sorry.

the service tag tells you that. look find it and write that down
or run Hwinofo32.exe free, and see if VT(x) is there.

turn It on in bios. (no 2 bios the same ,means YOU LOOK)
some processors have others not,.
unless you know your processor real model number , there is no flat answer possible.
other than the program listed above.
best I CAN tell counting 105 AIO PCs ,you have a

the PAVILION not stated. name.
guessing I am, you model is not fully stated

then look here.
if PC is modern it has CORE(tm) intel processor

go there and see if VT(x) is supported, many are not. for sure the cheapest processors.

My hp pavillion a000 turns on but has a black screen

In the abscence of more details, try the following:

Firstly, did you get any beeps as the system powered on? If so, how many and what sequence?
If you get One beep, all is well. any other beeps, means problems

Secondly: Try connecting the computer to another monitor, see if you get a screen there. If you do, the issue is with the monitor, if not, the issue is with the tower.
Thirdly: Check the video is woking by EITHER changing the video card or plugging the monitor into the onboard video port
Fourthly: Is the CPU fan spinning? Is the Heatsink on the CPU getting warm? If after 5 minutes or so it is not, you could have a failed CPU
Fifthly, Check the motherboard for any bulging or blowing capacitors (the small cylinders on the board), they may be leaking, with a brown/ yellow paste
Sixth: Unplug all drives/ usb connectors/ audio connectors, remoce the CMOS battery replace the battery and reboot. See if this helps. If you get a signal, replace each in turn and see if one component is causing the problem, also try removing each memory module in turn and replace it

If those solutions do not work, and this is the "sunshine" motherboard, the board has probably died.

My hp pavilion a430n is not turning on. even though i pressed the power button the light wont even turn on. it is truly annoying and the screen says something about the power supply and green, red, blue...

I suggest to open your computer and unplug your power supply and look for the color green and black cord which plugged from your motherboard. Then find a piece of wire and short the color green and black wire to test if your power supply is working and plug to your power socket. And check your electronic parts (capacitor) near at your processor, it might your capacitor blown out.

My monitor, hp w2007, shows for about 20 seconds when turned on then goes blurry then black how do i fix???

The most common problem that causes the screen to go to a black screen is due to bad capacitors in the screen's power supply board. The bad caps are the cylindrical and will appear to have bulging tops. 66c561df-0d01-416a-ae23-71f3b3965c88.jpg

My computer keeps shutting down randomly. Also when i try to use F10 it will not respond if i try and run error checking the system will crash/shut down or give me a black screen. Basicly it randomly...

Possibilities:
1. overheating, and automatic shutdown.
Check that the fans are working.

2. bad RAM, causing "random" crashing.
On a "good" computer, download the free 'MEMTEST86+' software, and run it, to test your RAM.

3. Leaking capacitors on motherboard, causing "voltage-spikes", leading to "random" errors.

4. Bad disk-drive. Remove the disk-drive.
Connect it as a "slave" drive in another computer,
and run 'CHKDSK' ("Check Disk") to look for problems.

I have an HP pavilion f1503 monitor. Every time I turn the monitor on it only stays on for about one or minute then it goes black. I can sort of see the desk top or whatever windows I have pulled up but...

You're right, it is the backlight. Open it up and find the board that controls the backlights (be very careful, there will be high-voltage capacitors even when it's switched off). You can usually tell because a ribbon cable will go from the screen to one board (the display control) and either two or four will go to the other one - the backlight driver board. The two or four cables come from the mini fluorescent tubes that provide the light - one at the top, one at the bottom.
Usually the problem will be a dead capacitor - look for one that looks bulgy, or has been leaking. It could also be a dead fuse, so use a multimeter and find a fuse with no resistance.
If anything is obviously burnt or melty, that's oviously not a good sign either.
It's tough sometimes to work out what component has gone, but they're guaranteed to be cheap to replace - much less than a new monitor.
