I have a Lexmark Platinum Pro 905 printer. Someone deleted the printer icon from my printer list and made another printer the default. I am getting rid of the other printer but cannot figure out how to use my Lexmark again. The Driver Detective says the software is still in my computer. How do I connect with it again?

hi DebsDelight,
I understand how you feel, printer problems can be highly frustrating especially if its fairly new equipment that seems to be at fault.
I'm going to try and help you by walking you through a couple of troubleshooting steps. For this to work you need to be in a calm problem solving state of mind without frustration interfering with the troubleshooting process.
Firstly we must make absolutely sure that the problem is not being caused be a improperly connected connector;
1.) Turn of your printer and PC (turning off PC is optional, but
lets do that to make absolutely sure).
2.) Lets start with the printer first;
-I want you to take careful note of the cables connected to the printer and where the connectors of these cables are connected. There should be a printer power cable
connected to it from the electrical wall socket and a USB
data cable connected to it from the PC.
-I want you to disconnect all of these cables so that you
have your printer, the printer power cable, the USB data
cable and your PC all separate.
3.) Now we are going to connect the system back together, making sure that every connector is firmly inserted into its associated port.
3.1) Firstly connect the printer power cable to the wall socket and the printer. Turn on the printer.
3.2) Turn on your PC and wait for it to boot into the operating system (ex. Windows XP)
3.3) Connect the USB cable to the printer (taking note of the fact that the cable has one connector which can
connect only to the printer and one connector which
can connect only to the PC)
3.4) Connect the USB cable to the PC
The connection scheme will be something like:
[Electrical wall socket]-[Printer power cable]-[Printer]-[USB data cable]-[PC]
4.) The above steps constitute the physical connection of the printer to the PC. After completion of these steps I want you to confirm if whether you still get the "No connection to computer" error message.
5.) If you still receive the message, I would suggest obtaining a new USB cable to eliminate damage to the USB data cable as cause of the connection problem.
6.) If you still receive the error message after trying a new data cable it will be clear that the problem doesn't lie with the physical connection between the PC and the printer, but with the driver (which facilitates the logical communication between the printer and the PC). At this point reinstalling the printers driver is the last troubleshooting process worth trying before assuming that the particular machine you have purchased is fundamentally faulty and a replacement under the one year warranty should be considered.
7.) If you need to reinstall the drivers for your printer please feel free to tell me in the comment to this problem thread (please comment on the operating system you are using on your PC and if it is Windows which version (XP or Vista).
Hope you find these guidelines helpful in solving your problem and feel free to ask for more info in the comment window of this thread.
Kind regards and thanks for using the FixYa service

I fixed this by completely uninstalling the Lexmark software, then unplugging the USB and restarting. I then installed the new Lexmark software that I downloaded from their site, make sure not to plug the USB back in until it told me to. It then detected the printer properly and started working.
