My camer won't turn on

My cybershot DSC-S500 will not turn on.  When I push the power button, the screen lights up and says, "Cybershot" and then turns back off.  It is less than a year old.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

My Sony Cybershot DSC S500 won't turn on. It turns on, shows "Sony cybershot" then shuts off. I have this camera for less than a year, and have not used it very often.

my camera wont take pictures. you can still review pictures though. when you turn it on the lens extends and goes back in like 3 times and it says "cyber-shot" then "access" then it says " turn the power off and on again"

When I turn on my camera the access lamp light comes on and the camera shuts off immediately. What gives?

The camera will only turn on once in a while seemingly randomly. I've put brand new batteries in it and it still shuts off after just a brief flash of Cyber-shot on the screen.

My Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S650 will not power on it turns on briefly and then right back off.

You can still view old pictures that you have taken, but it will not allow you to take pictures.

I had the same problem...my camera used to switch on and display "cybershot" for a second or so and the red light at the lower right corner will blink and switch off immediately. To fix this replace your batteries with fresh alkaline batteries. I had lead batteries and although they both deliver 1.5v, there is a difference in the current (amperes) it seems. After I replaced with alkaline batteris...my camera is fully functional again. Hopefully this works...

That usually means it's out of batteries.

Does the lense extend when you power it on in "snapshot"mode?
Could be the switch is sticking. These cameras use concave cup button that mash on gold foil on the circuit board. Could be a bad switch. $$$$$ costly.
Interested in selling it?

Take out the memory card, if there is one inserted into the camera. i have the same problem. the battery was new. but once i remove the memory card from the digicam, it worked. i have yet to determine if the fault was the camera or the memory card.

I have a Sony DSC-W50 Cybershot camera that won't take pictures or videos anymore. It powers up fine and the screen works, but when I hold down the shutter button all the way, it focuses and nothing more.

Downloaded driver for cybershot dsc s500, then try to interface camera with computer, pc doesnt see the camera in control panel or my computer removable hard drive.

Sony has the roughest firmware known to man for digital cameras. If running Windows XP or Vista you can simply connect the camera to the USB port and let the computer do the rest. Picbrige works the best for it downloads the quickest. Picbrige will be on your cameras list of choices to use for downloading

PLEASE HELP!

There is a problem inside the camera with the wire harness/cable connection to the screen. They are know to come loose over time. If you tap rather briskly on the front of the camera right on the word Cybershot it should reconnect it. Worked on mine but you may need to do it now & again. The altenative is to have the camera dismantled and the connector pushed back onto the screen.

Now a couple months later I have a different problem, it says to turn the power on and off again when I turn it on to take pictures.
