Water on keyboard, now laptop won't start and makes noise

Toshiba Satellite had water on the keyboard one day. I left it alone to dry and after a couple months turned it on. Now it makes a high pitched buzz or beep and won't go past the first screen that shows the Toshiba logo. Is there something I can do to make it work again? I did take it apart and there appears to be no rusting or evidence of water.

I would say the laptop is done. You have given it more than enough time to dry out so you have shorted out something on the motherboard. Remove the hard drive so that you have access to the information stored on it. You can pick up a refurbished laptop from micro center for under 200.00.

My lap is also dv6000 and i have no symptoms like that.
it seems some thing is going wrong inside. As your lap is under warranty you should contact your service centre, it will be free.

Thanks

Depending upon your BIOS this beep error code could mean you have faulty RAM modules. Reseat your RAM modules, to make sure they make proper connection. If this doesn't work take them to your friendly computer shop and ask them to test them for you.

Put it in some rice, let it dry for some days and then try to turn it on. If won't turn on, pray and take it for repair.

I spilled water on the keyboard and it won't fire up. What can I do?

If your Laptop is on when the water got spilled most likely it will cause harware problem I sugget if you are still under warraty to call the Customer Service of your manufacturer or the store where you bought it to check the coverage of your warranty and to what extend you are covered coz some company give warranty for accidents.

If you are already out of warranty then I sugget to call a local tech from your are to see what part got damage by the water so you will have an idea what to replace.

Hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FIXYA.

I have made a mess and I have got the keyboard of my thosiba satellite p105 filled with yoghurt between the keys and the board. My question is how can I get the buttons off the board while not tearing them...

I would disassemble the computer, unplug the keyboard from the laptop and drench it in plain water until the yogurt washes away. Let it dry for several days, reassemble the keyboard into the laptop, and hopefully you'll save yourself having to buy another keyboard.

Or, you could buy another keyboard off of Ebay, and install it, or have it installed.

I think that the buttons can be pryed off, but they might get damaged in the process.

Spilled milk on toshiba satellite M505-S4940

  1. Make sure to unplug all cables and power. Remove all!
  2. If the screen can be tilted all the way back so as to lay the Laptop flat, then lay the laptop flat, keyboard down, on top of a large piece of paper towel.
  3. Watch to see that the towel absorbs excess liquid, remove the laptop.
  4. Fill a liquid sprayer with some water, remember to remove any soaps or detergents from the container. Use water only.
  5. Form a medium size paper clip into a square hook that will fit beneath the suspect keys.
  6. Place the hook under a key and pull gently upwards until the key pops out. Be careful, I have broken a few!!!
  7. As can be observed when you do this, the keyboard is visible and cleaning can be done with a cotton swap. Spray the cotton swab with the sprayer; do not spray directly onto the keyboard. The idea of the sprayer is to avoid mishaps like dropping excess water onto the keyboard!
  8. When done with all suspect keys; replace the keys always aware of the right positioning to avoid rework! Remember to clean inside, under the key etc.
  9. If this doesn't do it or are hesitant; take it to a technician.

Touch Pad on my laptop is not working

Follow the guide below to tear the laptop down, you are extremely fortunate that the device is even working. Electronic sircuits and water have never been a good match, and your keyboard and touchpad are essentially just large electronic circuits. There is probably some water still somewhere under the keyboard and it is probably in contact with the tochpad cable or socket. When you have the keyboard off, use a hair dryer on warm and completely dry out all components and make sure all the small flat cables are tight in their sockets.

Toshiba m35x-s311 a little water in the keyboard right side

Hi,

I'm ArmyMason. Was this strictly water or was there any contaminates like Kool-aid or sugars in it? Water can normally be left to dry off and no harm will come to the machine as long as it was left off, but sugar can cause major issues with the machine. You are going to have to take the keyboard off the laptop and this can be done by removing the screws from underneath the laptop. If the keyboard was damaged that is a cheap and easy fix, but if its a Processor then we could be looking at spending more than it is worth. So take the keyboard off and make sure all the water is out from underneath, the Processor normally sits were the fan is, its water proof but not shock proof so if water made it ark it could have fried the Processor. The MoBo should be fine. Main thing is making sure its completely dry. Next time this happens, turn the laptop over and let the water drip out, this keeps the component above the water and out of harms way. Also disconnect the battery and power cable and leave it off until its completely dry.

Thanks,
ArmyMason

I spilled tea on my packard bell easynote

Two things to check.
Open the laptop up and re-connect the keyboard connection. It has a locking mechanism so be sure to unlock that first. Also when you're doing that you can see if there's any water (tea) still in there to dry off.
If that doesn't work, then plug in an external keyboard mate, cause the only other way to fix this is to replace the keyboard, the parts to open up the laptop keyboard itself are intricate and it's much too compicated, plus I've never done that (Seeing as that it's all glued together).
Hope this helps, be sure to rate!
