LG R40 laptop is showing the power light is on but the fan is off and the charging light is off and the is nothing on the screen. what could be the problem and the possible solution?

you need to open the back cover of the laptop, usually the its tightened by screws.

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

I'm guessing it's out of battery. Try plugging in the power cord and let its battery charge for 5 minutes, then hit the power button.

This sounds very much like a dead motherboard. I would suggest you get a professional to look at this or send it to acer. Visit thier site if you wish to. I would offer more help however laptop parts are expensive and tedious to replace.

Test your laptop by connecting its video ouput (base of the computer at the back) to a known working monitor. Then power on the laptop and see if the known working monitor behaves the same way your laptop's monitor does. That will narrow down the possible causes.

press F1 on boot up and get into the bios, reset defaults and then chane the boot order to the CD/ROM, save changes, reboot and you should be able to install XP

Right click on the desktop and go to the properties option.Click on the Screen Saver Tab and will find Power option . Click on it and check the power schemes

its ok pat sounds like mobo power ships not doing thers jobs nomore ok would have to buy new motherbord ok thx nick

Check the ac adapter. It seems your adapter is not charging it. Either the ac adapter or your dc port may be the problem. Is this the correct adapter, is it giving the correct voltage. These should be considered also.
