Canon PS A650 IS: LCD blank

When switching on the camera, the LCD becomes a little bit light (does not remain completely dark) but no image or anything else like an error message can be seen neither in playback, nor in shoot mode. It is also not possible to shoot any images. If I press the Menu button or switch to shoot mode, the LCD becomes a little bit more lighter, so something seems to happen but the LCD still remains blank! For some time, I've had some problems using the mode switch: it would remain in playback mode even if switched to shoot mode. So I struggled to put it in shoot mode but finally I always manaded to do that. Whether this has anything to do with my new problem of blank LCD though?

SOURCE: canon powershot a520 problem

there are two reasons for this problem.
1) if the flex ribbion cable carrying signal to shutter and appartuer motor gets damaged it does not opens the shutter. In result you get only black screen and no picture.

2) another reason is defective CCD.

both the problems can't be fixed by the user itself. You have to show it to a repair man

No image is captured by the screen itself (LCD screen works but completely dark).

Did you try pressing the display button several times? in both viewing mode and record mode? Cycle through all display modes, s you get used to the button, so it does not trow you off when it happens again.

The camera won't register an image to take a picture of.

LCD monitor electric film contacts must be fixed. If you can not do it yourself then please contact with the nearest authorized Canon Service. I think it is too easy to fix it so it is not need much money.

Pictures turning out dark, LCD not adjusting

CCD sensor problems usually present themselves as either a blank image, purple cast, or lines through the image. Incorrect exposures are usually a result of the lens shutter failing to open and close correctly. Typically, the lens is not servicable and they need to be replaced.

Wide lines and dark shadows on some pictures

There was an issue with some of the A650 IS cameras that bright light or sunshine could sometimes enter the case and create such symptoms as you're describing:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=183&modelid=15658&keycode=2112&id=39151

Although your camera is not an A650, recommend contacting Canon, especially if your camera is less than a year old, to have it repaired under warranty service. Even if older, recommend contacting Canon anyways to argue free repair if your symptoms match that of the above link. Call 1-800-OK-CANON.

LCD is Blank when Camera is on.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
