DISCONNECTING YOUR BATTERY without losing the RADIO CODE

I constantly read frequent requests for RADIO CODES referring to the disconnection of battery power ( whether its for changing the battery, etc.) and the radio is now INOP. Here is a simple way to save radio codes, radio stations, clock time and computer settings. Purchase from an auto parts dealer, a 9 volt battery powered lighter socket connector. Plug into lighter, do your battery work, After work is completed, disconnect, and radio will work as before. Unit will cost less than 20.00 and well worth it.

Why did my radio stopped working?

double check all your connections. you can always bench test the radio with a car battery and any speaker. find your 2 hot wires and 1 ground. (1 hot wire is for memory, but with some radios it will need power also to bench check) make sure all your radio fuses are good, run a set to the speaker, then run the wires to the battery. if the radio powers up, the problem isn't the deck. this has worked for me several times.

you can skip connecting the speaker, but I prefer to make sure everything works before I reinstall.

Hi all....I've got a 2001 Fiat Punto, and after disconnecting the battery the radio is asking me for code. When I turn on the radio, it says

Most car radios need a code when theyve been disconnected , also some car radios are made to turn off after 20 mins use so that it cant be left on accidently , this is a battery saving idea , it can be bypassed though by rewiring a live connection to the radio rather than a connection through the ignition

Radio looks like it is working but has no sound, got another radio still has no sound

two things. The speakers can be bad and a power wire for the amp section of the radio can be off. Check all the fuses in the under dash fuse panel as any of them might be the one. the speakers can be tested y connecting a 9 volt batterry to the wires going to the speakerand it should pop as the battery is connected and disconnected. Don't leave it connected too long as it'll blow out the speaker. The chassis ground of the radio might be disconnected as it's a cable that's just connected to the dash frame and the radio.

My battery in my 2001 yukon would drain over night, i took it to the dealer and they didnt find anything wrong with it. so i disconnected radio n my battery stoped draining, so my question is, is my radio...

your battery memory is connected directly, keeping your preset channel and the clock working. look for a bad ground to the radio before changing it

How to remove the factory installed radio?

Hello,

To remove the radio of your car, follow the process below:
  • Turn the vehicle off and disconnect the negative battery terminal cable from the car battery before working on the radio.
  • Take off the dash trim area around the car radio. You may need to use the flat head screwdriver to carefully pry the paneling and trim off. Some cars use plastic clips or screws to hold the dash trim in place. Locate any clips or screws and remove them.
  • Use the Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew each of the screws holding the car radio in place. Most car radios are held in place by four screws, one on each corner. After removing each screw, carefully slide out the entire car radio.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness, main power supply and ground wire from the back of the radio. You may also need to disconnect any antenna connections or speaker connections.
Take care and good luck

S70 instrument cluster not working

Hi,

I had a similar problem. The speedometer didn't work. This is going to sound a little strange, but, at some point the battery died. When the new battery was put in, all of a sudden the speedometer worked again. Can't explain it, but it's true. Maybe just disconnecting and re-connecting the battery would help you, BUT BE CAREFUL about the radio. When the battery is disconnected (or dies) you have to put the radio code in again to use your radio. Make sure you have the 4-digit radio code before you disconnect the battery. If you enter it 3 times and fail, google what to do then.

Battery died for no reason

About the only thing you can do is disconnect the battery and connect them again after 5 minutes. If that do not work check for blown fuse. Other than that then the XM radio has been damaged by the charger.
