Nikon D80 Black Screen on LCD

I took a photo in a broad daylight, but when I turned on my camera in the afternoon it doesn't display anything anymore. It could still take pictures though & I doesn't seem to have any error messages. I could still adjust the aperture & ISO on the top screen but my LCD is on the rear is just black it doesn't show anything.

SOURCE: Black Lcd and pictures.

The problem you are experiencing is due to the shutter being stuck closed. Normally the shutter is kept open while you compose the image, and then when you push the button it closes and the CCD records what it was seeing at that moment. When the shutter is stuck the image is blocked from reaching the CCD at all times so you can see nothing. Unfortunately the shutter is a tiny delicate component buried deep within the lens assembly and is not accessible without complete disassembly. I would suggest finding a repair center to ship the camera to, or replacing the camera. I would definitely not _gently_ tap the camera on a hard surface to possibly dislodge a slightly stuck shutter blade. This could easily cause further damage to the camera. However, you are not me. ;) David Millier Advance Camera Repair

SOURCE: Nikon d80 LCD screen

Hello cherdh,

To disable those blinking spots, just press the up or down cursor keys at the back of the camera while in playback mode. You will get three different views. One shows the EXIF data (Image data) as an over lay on your photograph. Press the button again to go to histogram mode, with graphs. Press it again to go to a mode where some image data is on the bottom of the display with no blinkies on the image.

Those blinking black spots are called highlights in a photograph. They indicate the areas where your photograph is over-exposed, i.e. where there is too much light and the colours are washed out. It can be a good tool to get a good exposure. Keep clicking with different settings till you get an exposure without those blinking spots.

I hope this helps.

This sounds like a broken or cracked LCD screen. The backlite is working, thus you will get the white screen. The LCD could also be disconnected internally, or has other problems. But this is a direct problem with the LCD.
A camera like this can usually take pictures, and you may be able to use it to set the menus by using the video cable to the TV or computer screen (some flat screens have video inputs).

I took pictures from my nikon d40x but all photos are displayed black in lcd. Would you know how to fix this error?

If your LCD screen works normally as a viewfinder and lets you review photos then your shutter is likely stuck in the closed position. If the display is black in all modes your LCD display is bad. Unfortunately, there is no safe DIY fix for either problem. The camera will require professional repair.

LCD on - view image prior to taking photo

The feature you are referring to is called "Live View mode".

This is NOT available on the Nikon D80, and was only introduced on the D90, which is available now.

Live View mode allows you to use the LCD screen as your view finder instead of using the eyepiece, but unfortunately, this feature is not available in your model.

Nikon d80 won't turn on

Pcog3 & Guests,
Check to make sure (before you turn aon the camera) that the SD card is seated and lens is completely in the right position, if it's not the camera will malfunction and stay or turn off. The last guest that doesn't have info on the LCD can turn the menu items back on in the settings preferences.

D80

maybe you have changed the mode to "Remote control" - it's the button on top with multiple pages on it (in front of the AF button)
If a remote is shown on the LCD press the button until [S] is shown
