Louise, since there is several different types and models of Grundfos pumps it would be hard to answer your question. To possible point you in the right direction below are a few links to where you can find some PDF documentation about a popular Grundfos pump the MQ series and direct link to the manufactures "Service Support".

SOURCE: grundfos mq3-45 b

There are several reasons for the pump to go into alarm mode: 1. Overheating 2. Lack of water 3. leak on the suction side causing cavitation 4. Bad circuit board
This pump will try to re-start for 24 hours and will go into Standby mode if there is no water.
What happens if you push Start?

SOURCE: My Grundfos MQ pump intermittantly continues to run

I have the same problem and have found that the inlet check valve has a broken shaft in the center of device. It is a multi-piece plastic unit and it looks as if it is not quite seating and therefore the internal pressure leaks slowly back into my low pressure suction line. The pump will start and the pressure will build then shut off for about 30 minutes then cycle again. I am going to replace the check valve.

SOURCE: I have a grundfos mq3-35b, you turn on the tap

The control unit is faulty, I had that problem twice.. I have now bypassed the control unit and use a normal pump pressure switch to control..works fine..The Grundfos company at first said I had to have air in the lines then admitted the control assy. was at fault. after two new units in three years I did away with the control unit.

Grundfos Mq3-45. Pump does not come on with just one faucet open. If I open another faucet pump comes on. If I shut one faucet the pump turns off. It was working properly for 7 years.

- changes in hydraulic conditions (clogged pipes, clogged filter, ...)
- pressure switch failure
- flow sensor failure
(in normal condition the pump starts when the consumption is higher than 1.2 l/min or the pressure is lower than 2 bar)

I have a submersible deep well pump and lately if I run the water for 15 minutes straight it shuts off why.

Grundfos pumps are thermally protected by a bi-metal strip temperature switch. Your pump is overheating. Typical cause of this is operating to near the shutoff head pressure. Try reducing the discharge pressure by increasing the flow rate.

WHY DOES MY BOILER PUMP CONSTANTLY RUN

Hello anon, this sounds like there is a problem on the electric side of your boiler. Depending on the boiler if its a combi type it is one of the pcb's calling for the pump to run. If at all possible call a specialist who deals with Central Heating and dont try and fix it yourself.

Hi guys I have 2 grundfos cri10 vertical pumps (just for water pressure) I changed the expansion vessel which blew and I have primed the vent plug but for some reason every time I power the pump up it goes...

indicates no water supply for the pump
check tap from the tank is turned on
if the vertical ? pump is a submersible (in well type ) check for water in the bore/well
If a jet pump make sure that the whole jet system is primed -not just the pump and again make sure that there is water in the well/bore

I don't understand how to set the timer on my UP 15-10-B5/TLC Grundfos circulating pump. When it is not plugged in, we have a hard time getting hot water

Sounds like 2 problems:
1) Crossover and 2) Setting timer
Recirculation system has check valve that stops backflow of water when pump is turned off.
When check valve is clogged with sediment, or has worn out, then cold water enters hot pipe or hot water enters cold pipe when faucet is turned on.
Take apart connection where grundfos connects to both hot and cold pipes, and clean with white vinegar or CLR.

Open following link for setting typical FM/1 analog timer module on Grundfos recirculation pump:
Your timer module may vary in appearance.
Slide switch selector might be located below timer dial.

Need to find a link to the owner's manual/ repair manual for the Grundfos up10-16 b5/atlc......

Following link shows links to grundfos and grundfos manuals.

1) My grundfos stopped working because sediment clogged the pump, and the motor slowed.
When motors slow, they get hot and burn up.
I ask my friend who rewinds motors how to fix it, he said in the old days, they rewound every motor, but today they throw valuable scrap into landfill, and then buy new motors from China.
I told him not to retire, but go to school and teach kids how to rewind motors, and then took apart the grundfos line and cleaned it out with CLR, but it never worked again.

2) If timer stops working, but pump still works, you can buy cheap plug-in timer and connect grundfos to the cheap timer

Add a comment for more free help.
Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, expert speaks with you over phone while you work on timer or any do-it-yourself project.
Fixya is always less expensive than a service call.

After replace the cold water pipe line, my Grundfos recirculator pump does not work anymore. I have to wait 3 min to get hot water. Do you know anything wrong here? Thanks

Many times when pipes are worked on, the work loosens sediment that was built up in the pipe.
Sediment is probably why cold water line was replaced.
That's why faucet aerators get clogged up after pipes are worked on.

It sounds like your grundfos pump got clogged too.
Immediately unplug the pump so motor is not overheating.
Motors are meant to turn freely and can be damaged when blocked.

Take apart the pipes at grundfos pump and see if you can clean out the line.
If line cannot be cleaned or pump doesn't restart, then the grundfos has to be replaced.

Also look at adjoining pipes and see if there is a clog in nearby elbow, especially where galvanized and copper pipes join..
