Go to Compaqs web site and download the Win7 driver for your sound firmware and install it. Ensure you specify either 32 or 64bit. Check your OS for the specification.

The fan has a third wire, that is used to tell the uProcessor that it is spinning and in some cases how fast.
Replace the fan and that should fix it. Spares form many suppliers on ebay

Infected with something or driver issues.. Try this trick, Turn off the system and wait 20 seconds, start the computer and click the F8 key till you see a black and white screen. Choose Safe mode or safe mode with networking. If windows starts this way, then you know you have a infection or a driver issue - If the computer does the same freeze up, then you know it has other issues - possibly hardware issues..

I have a compaq s5100nx desktop with a crashed 80 g ide hard drive.i am trying to replace it with a 500 g drive but the drive is not recognized by the bios i have tried 2 different drives already. However...

did you configured the Hard drive jumpers correctly?
Was the original HD set to master or Cable select?
if so please set your new hard drive to the same jumper settings as the old one.

Procedures to changing cd rom drive

Hi, it's really easy. Remove the left casing by pressing the hatch on the back. Remove the data and power cables from the back of the cd rom. Then remove the front besel (the plastic one - just the colored one around the CD) then you have to press both sides (next to the cd bay) and pull it out. Then take out the plastics and then do this procedure the other way aournd for the new hard cd rom. I hope this helps. the cd/dvd might have gone bad
try uninstalling and reinstalling the dvd drive frm device manager..... go to device manager and then right click on the dvd drive and click on uninstall and tehn restart the comp

S5100NX PC Desktop Problem When I push the power button it feel's soft. No response from the computer at all. Is it possible to replace this switch?

It's possible that the spring that makes the button "firm" may have popped out. Take off the front cover and look for it. It's easy to put back in. While you have the front cover off, push the little (usually black) start button to see if the computer starts.
If the switch is not repairable, your best bet is probably to find a Used Computer store/repair shop. They should only charge a nominal fee, if anything. Computer booths at flea markets are good places to look for stuff like that too.

You can buy in market and they will charge 400 bugs at a max.
