My sirius car antenna cable got cut by the trunk closing on it. I tried connecting the two ends and the system can not get a signal. What can I do?

Sirius is a satellite biased service , so it uses a satellite antenna , local stations how ever don't use that antenna and use a dipole antenna , are both type antenna's connected to your radio , lots of installers don't bother to connect local antenna to new radio installs , im mean you got Sirius why'd you want local stuff anyway is there thinking

I would do the following, hoping one of them works.

1) DISCONNECT the power to the radio and SiriusXM unit to "clear" it. Then reconnect and ask Sirius to resend signat.

2) Ask Sirius to UNSUBCRIBE that radio so it is deactivated. Then, have them reactivate and resend programing signal.


3) Be sure your car is outside under clear sky when Sirius sends the program signal.


4) It is possible the antenna cable to your unit is loose at the connections and/or damaged. A weaker signal may get your stations, but may prevent the additional Navigational signals. Have the antenna checked thoroughly and tested. If car is still under warranty, this should be a covered diagnostic/repair.

5) Finally, be sure the correct Radio Serial Number is being activated. If your radio works, that is one service. But maybe they are putting a wrong number by some chance into the system to fix this one? For example, you have TWO radios in TWO cars. Are they sending the turn on signal to the WRONG radio? Not as farfetched as you might think.

The truck antennas can go bad. It could be the cable though. You can replace either part at www.tss-radio.com

hi there, you can try to change the radio, if not, you have to see the outside cable signal catcher.

If your antenna cable has been cut or severed, it can be repaired without the need for a replacement.

You will need the following things:


Small 600 degree soldering iron and solder.
Liquid flux for soldering the braid.
Small sizes of heat shrink tubing.
Small heat gun.
Small pliers, cutter, and Xacto knife.




1) The first step is to use the Xacto knife to cut both ends of the antenna cable so you have a clean end.

2) Using the Xacto knife roll the cable on a board and gently cut all around the cable to cut the outer insulation. Remove about 1/2 inch of the insulation from each end.

3) Push the braid back to expose the center wire and gently roll the cable and cut the center insulation to expose about 1/10 inch of the center wire. With your small long nose pliers, bend the center wire into a small hook shape.

4) Repeat all the above steps on the other end of the wire.

5) Put a 1 inch piece of heat shrink tubing on one end ( the black piece), and a 1/4 inch piece of heat shrink (the white piece) on the center conductor. Look at the picture to see this.

5) Hook the two ends together. Gently squeeze the hooks closed and solder them together. Be very careful when soldering this. Be quick so you do not apply to much heat and cause the heat shrink tubing to shrink on the side where you do not want it to be.

6) Slide the small white heat shrink to cover the cooled solder joint you just made and use the heat gun to shrink the tubing in place.


7) Now push the braids back together to cover over the connection you just made. Try make the braid smooth together by GENTLY rolling the cable between your fingers. Carefully solder the braid. A little liquid flux on the braid prior to soldering helps the solder flow and makes it look better.

8) Slide the final piece of heat shrink tubing over the braid and shrink it with the heat gun.

it could be the connection on the back of the reciever that could be bad. I would call sirius and see if your reciever is under warranty still, if not i can almost garauntee that your tuner antenna input is bad, if your antenna is brand new.

The adapter slips into your vehicle radio as easily as a cassette tape and provides better performance than a wireless connection.


Solution 3 - FM Extender Cable Kit: An FM extender cable will provide a special transmitter antenna that allows you to obtain the best audio performance through your vehicle’s FM radio. This solution is easy to self-install, but does require that an easy-to-hide wire be run in your vehicle so the transmitter antenna can be placed in close proximity to your vehicle’s radio antenna. Using this FM Extender Cable Kit, you will continue to use your SIRIUS radio exactly the same way as you do currently.

FM Transmitter Set-Up Tips
To tune your FM transmitter turn off your SIRIUS radio and tune through the FM channels on your vehicle’s radio to locate an FM channel (except 87.7/87.9) that is not broadcasting in your area. If you use an FM channel that is being used by a local broadcaster, it will interfere with the performance of your SIRIUS radio. Once you have located an FM channel that is not being used for broadcasting in your area, save it as a preset on your vehicle radio. This will become your SIRIUS preset. If you’re not sure which FM channels are not being used in your home or travel cities, you can go to www.sirius.com/fmchannel and search for an FM channel based on zip code.
Turn on your SIRIUS radio. In the SETTINGS or MENU on your SIRIUS radio, locate the “FM Frequency” adjustments. Set the channel number on your SIRIUS radio to match the SIRIUS preset on your vehicle radio. Refer to your user guide for detailed instructions on how to do this. The FM transmitter in your SIRIUS radio is automatically set to FM channel 88.1. This may not be the best channel in your area.

Just take the fakra connector (plastic piece) off and it will be just like the sirius antenna end. Then buy a 10ft extention cable... I've just order mine and will have pics when done

Hey adam, check that antenna wire! It's probably pulling out at the antenna/magnet end. Adam, I checked that and sure enough, it was pulling out. So I put on a new antenna and problem solved! Thanks Adam!

Satellite radio antennas do tend to fail sometimes. In the early days of Sirius/XM they were made a lot better, but now I've had problems with them a lot more frequently. If the antenna is plugged in securely and it still shows the 'antenna' error code, you most likely need to replace your antenna. It is possible that something else along the antenna signal path is causing your problem - Sometimes the antenna connections in the dock or the receiver itself can cause the issue, but most likely it is the antenna.
