From your description it sounds like you TV is experiencing a shut down and re-set condition. This is usually caused by some type of voltage irregularity in the power supply section of the TV. Unfortunately, this is not an easy fix and will require a trip to the shop. Get an estimate before approving repair. In the new world of disposable electronics the cost of repair may exceed the value of the set.

I recently found a remote that does work for this TV. Its a DirecTV model RC64. The codes listed in the book do not work. So you must do a channel search. It's not that far down the list so it doesn't take that much time. I hope this helped those concerned.
Check the connection of the ground. Bad connection of ground usually create this problem. Especially the ground connection between the crt board and the wire who surround the picture tube. Let me know what you will get after this.
