Do a fresh boot. Under My Computer, Right Click on the DVD-RW Drive. Select Properties. If the Recording tab is there then select it. Tick the 'Enable CD recording on this drive' box. If there's no recording tab then you'll have to edit the registry...
Note: Back up your registries first (just in case).
Run RegEdit
Look at -
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\CDBurning\Devices
The value needs to be '2'. Right Click on Drive Type to modify this value. Exit RegEdit. You should now have the recording tab under properties. Check the 'Enable CD recording' box.
Hopefully the burning software will work now.

Hi,
re-install nero. Or download a trial version of 1 click dvd. the problem will most likely be that ATAPI Or Couffin Drivers are not installed on your Computer. Also check your device is recognised In The Device Manager.
Failing this try the device on the secondary IDE or different SATA connector on your Motherboard.

Thankyou For Using Fixya.

Blank DVDs turn my DVD Burner into a CD Drive

Not knowing what OS you're running or what version of Nero you have, I'll make a few assumptions. If you're running Vista with Nero 7, Nero doesn't always "play nice" with Vista. It's a memory hog (all video editing programs are) but it tends to hang up a lot and for some reason, runs worse in Vista than in XP. (just my observation)

I've had to re-install Nero twice due to similar problems. (lack of drive recognition, burns ab-ending etc) . You've probably already uninstalled/reinstalled the burner so I would uninstall Nero and reinstall it. Best of luck and please post back with any questions.

Burned DVDs play on PC but won't play on home player. I have 3 PC (2HPs and 1 Parts built),running XP home, pro, media. I bought 2 Samsung SH-S182 DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner, and have tried them on all 3...

Nero 6 and 7 does not provides us the facilitiy of burning the DVD in appropriate DVD Format. Instead it burns the DVD in the normal DATA Format, which is not supportable by our DVD Player. To play the DVD in our DVD Player we should burn the DVD in the appropriate DVD Burner which itself converts the extension of the movie and make it proper for a DVD Player to read it. It also adds some files to the DVD which is sometimes used by the dvd player in running the DVD.

I can't write DVD with my Pioneer DVR-107D DVD±RW

What brand of media are you using?

You are burning at 2x because that is the highest that this drive supports.

You would also want to instruct Nero to Verify by ticking the check box and either finalize disc or make it mulitsession, if your burner supports multisession DVDs

My pioner dvd dr 1120 d wont reconise blank dvd's

Open it with NERO softwer and add some files to burn, down at the right end of window (nero's) have a line that says how much space on disc there is.
Simple as this, I just caimed from my DVD dealer and he explained to me, Empty disc will always say 0 Bytes but if you open Nero Burner you'll be able to se how much of space is free on scale, after and whille adding files to burn image.
Hope you understand me :)
