I keep getting a grey background when printing. I have taken out the drum and cleaned it with some improvement. The printer tells me the drum still has 82% life left. Should I change the drum anyway?

Why does the message "CHANGE DRUM SOON" continue to appear on the LCD display of my Brother machine, after I replaced the drum? Description: This message would continue to appear if the drum counter was not reset when you replaced the drum. To reset the drum counter, follow the instructions listed below. Open the front cover. Press the Options key on the control panel. The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO". Press 1 to reset the drum count. Close the front cover.
SOURCE: Replaced both toner and drum- prints too light
remove drom and toner, in base of machine is a glass slit, clean it.
SOURCE: grey background and dark streaks
Change out the toner first and then the drum. Also be sure there is not excess toner underneath where the toner is installed. If so clean that out with a dry cloth.
SOURCE: Brother Printer won't accept mostly full toner cartridge
On the side of the cartridge (TN2000) there is a white reset flag, this need to set to twevle 'o' clock, thats towards the black roller. If that hasn't been reset the cartridge will register as low.
SOURCE: My printer- Brother HL1250- is making grey streaks on the paper
More than likely the grey streaks are from dirty fuser rollers open the fuser area and insect the fuser rollers i think they should be grey take silicone lubricant and wiat ntil rollers cool down and clean with a coton cloth do not scrape with anything sharp if this does not work then you ned to remove the glass platen and clean the optics( mirror and lens with tissue and glass cleaner wen machine is not hot also insect expsoure lamp( do not touh lamps because the oil from your hands will cause the lamp to get extremly hot and burn out good luck
One other thought is there could be marks from the stripper fingers at the fuser section look for build up of toner on them if so clean with q tip and alcohol
