Garage door motor is working but trolley is not pulling door up or down. When I pull the emergency release, trolley moves back n forth without a problem. However, once door is attached, trolley and motor make noises of strain but door never moves.
The torsion springs might need adjustment.
Pull emergency release, and manually lift door to half-open position.
When you release the door, it should stay in place.
If it almost "slams" down, the springs are not doing their job to "balance" the weight of the door itself.
The opener isn't designed to overcome the weight of the unsupported (no spring assist) door.
Over time, the springs take a "set", and might need a readjustment
THIS IS A JOB FOR PROFESSIONALS!!!
The springs are under tremendous pressure loading, and can even kill someone if they do not know what they are doing!

You have a stripped gear inside the opener

You can find exploded views and parts lists of the opener at SearsPartsDirect.com
I just checked.
SOURCE: Craftsman Garage Door Opener - Gears need to be fixed
Unplug the unit and remove the cover, usually eight screws, if you see a lot of white dust in the cover check the nylon drive/worm gear, they will need to be replaced.

Sounds like the drive gear is stripped. Remove the cover and take a look. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor.
SOURCE: I just had a power outage. My garage door was open...
IF THE OPENER IS IN THE OPEN POSITION THERE IS NOTHING TO LOCK IT IN THE CLOSED POSITION.
YOU CAN UNPLUG THE UNIT AND PLACE A VICE GRIP ABOVE A ROLLER ON THE TRACK. THIS WILL SECURE THE DOOR UNTIL POWER COMES BACK ON - DO NOT LEAVE THE UNIT PLUGGED IN - IT COULD BE DAMAGED BY A POWER SURGE WHEN THE POWER COMES BACK ON (ALL ELECTRONICS IN THE HOUSE SHOULD BE UNPLUGGED) ALSO IF YOU FORGET AND PUSH THE BUTTON THE VICE GRIP WOULD CAUSE THE DOOR TO COME OUT OF THE TRACK, MAKING YOUR CURRENT ISSUE SEEM SMALL.
