Sears garage door opener model 139.53919

Garage door motor is working but trolley is not pulling door up or down. When I pull the emergency release, trolley moves back n forth without a problem. However, once door is attached, trolley and motor make noises of strain but door never moves.

The torsion springs might need adjustment.

Pull emergency release, and manually lift door to half-open position.

When you release the door, it should stay in place.
If it almost "slams" down, the springs are not doing their job to "balance" the weight of the door itself.
The opener isn't designed to overcome the weight of the unsupported (no spring assist) door.

Over time, the springs take a "set", and might need a readjustment
THIS IS A JOB FOR PROFESSIONALS!!!
The springs are under tremendous pressure loading, and can even kill someone if they do not know what they are doing!

SOURCE: Craftsman Garage Door Opener - Gears need to be fixed

Unplug the unit and remove the cover, usually eight screws, if you see a lot of white dust in the cover check the nylon drive/worm gear, they will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: craftman door opener brand new wont work?

Sounds like the drive gear is stripped. Remove the cover and take a look. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor.

SOURCE: I just had a power outage. My garage door was open...

IF THE OPENER IS IN THE OPEN POSITION THERE IS NOTHING TO LOCK IT IN THE CLOSED POSITION.
YOU CAN UNPLUG THE UNIT AND PLACE A VICE GRIP ABOVE A ROLLER ON THE TRACK. THIS WILL SECURE THE DOOR UNTIL POWER COMES BACK ON - DO NOT LEAVE THE UNIT PLUGGED IN - IT COULD BE DAMAGED BY A POWER SURGE WHEN THE POWER COMES BACK ON (ALL ELECTRONICS IN THE HOUSE SHOULD BE UNPLUGGED) ALSO IF YOU FORGET AND PUSH THE BUTTON THE VICE GRIP WOULD CAUSE THE DOOR TO COME OUT OF THE TRACK, MAKING YOUR CURRENT ISSUE SEEM SMALL.

I have a Chamberlain1/2 hp 41a5389-1d the emergency manual release seems to be releasing by its self

There is a small spring on the trolley that pulls the handle up. If that is missing you have this problem. It could also just be that the trolley is wearing out.

When i press the key only the chains move leaving the door still up

Sounds like the trolley has been released from the door. Pull straight down on the release rope and let go. When the two halves of the trolley are lined up they should catch and the door will work.

I pulled the emergency rope on my door opener. How to fix the chain back on the pully?

Pull straight down on the rope and release. Then bring the two halves of the trolley together either by moving the door by hand or running the motor.

The inner and outer trolley will not reconnect

If the rope is pulled down and back toward the motor unit the trolley latches in the released position. To unlatch the trolley pull straight down on the rope and release. The two halves should now click together.

I have a Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener. Last night I had to open it using the emergency release due to power failure at house. Now it won't catch the door to open it although the chain mechanism...

That lever that the red handle pulls down is made to catch in the unlatched position. You can pull down on it again, and then pull the cord for and aft (parallel to the chain rail) and let it snap back up. Then either run the trolley or move the door and it will click back in.

Garage door slider that connects to the pulley will not stick

IF YOU ARE REFERING TO THE TROLLEY THAT RUNS ON THE OPENER RAIL. IT MAY JUST NEED THE RELEASE RESET. PULL THE ROPE BACK TOWARD THE POWER UNIT AND IT SHOULD CLICK - SOME UNITS NEED TO BE PULLED STRAIGHT DOWN.
IF IT IS A SCREW DRIVE OPENER THE TROLLEY COULD BE STRIPPED.

IF YOU HAVE A SCREW DRIVE IT COULD BE THE DRIVE
