Recently bought a ps1 game and inserted it into my PS2 (which is working fine) and got just a blank screen. The PS1 game has 2 discs (not even sure if thats normal) but both have the same result - a blank screen. Should PS1 games load automatically? or do I need to do something? My PS2 is the original (non slim version). Thanks for any help!

The same exact thing just happened to me and someone told me this and it worked.

1) Make sure that the disk is clean or unscratched. If not you would have to get it cleaned or you could the toothpaste thing to clean. You can use toothpaste.

2) Make sure that everything is plugged in. ( problem not the problem )

3) This is what worked for me. I opened up the PS1 and find the lens. ( you cant get to it with the kind you have ) Then take some rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide and clean it. if you don't have those just use water.

How to fix rsod on pcsx2 0.9.7

The infamous Red Screen of Desk -- A.K.A. Insert a Format Disc screen.

This screen is NOT asking for a disc to FORMAT the PS2. What it IS asking for is a PS2 or Playstation format [or a better word -- PS2 or Playstation TYPE disc. A disk with Playstation 1 or Playstation 2 type software on it -- in other words, a ps1 or ps2 game]. It's basically asking for a CD or DVD with software that the playstation can play. This red screen occurs when you insert an XBOX game or a burned/copied PS2 or PS1 game. What the PS2 is stating is that is cannot play this format [or type of] disc. It's asking you to insert a format [or type of] disc that it can recognize and use.

The most common reason for this screen appearing, if your PS2 does NOT have a mod chip, is a dirty lens. Try cleaning your lens and this should go away. What happens is that the lens becomes dirty and does not recognize the disc you inserted as being a PS2 or PS1 format [or type of] disc. So it's asking you to insert one. If your PS2 does have a mod chip installed, it could be a problem with the chip or the disc you burned. We don't install or sell mod chips, so we can't help you with that one.

2 PS1 games in almost perfect condition arn't working on PS2

Try wiping the disks in a circular motion with a cotton t-shirt, tissue or cleaning cloth, then try again. If it still doesn't work, try a PS2 game. If it works, try another PS1 game. If the other PS1 game doesn't work, the PS1 part of your PS2 system may be broken. Your PS2 has, inside of it, a miniaturized PS1. If that mini-PS1 breaks, you can't play PS1 games. If the PS2 game doesn't work, you probably need a lens repair. If the other PS1 game works, then your games are defective and you should get new ones.

On the play station it always asks for a Playstation 2 format disc. What is this and how much does it cost?

Hey Rgaul,

What that means is the disc that you are using is not supported by your ps2. Try using a different game and with a ps2 logo on it or even a ps1 game can work. Sometimes the games get really scratched that the ps2 will not recognize it that when you'll get the please insert and ps2 format disc message on your screen. So I would suggest cleaning your disc. That will solve your problem. Let me know if you Still experience the problem and please don't forget to rate me work. I would really appreciate it,

Ps1 disc playing in ps2

Are you inserting a PS2 or a PS1 memory card?
PS1 games can't use a PS2 card because they don't "understand" how to read them.
To save a PS1 game on a PS2 you will need a PS1 memory card.

I hope this helps, I assume this is what you are referring to with your question.
