SOURCE: Black Bars on all blu ray movies

Hi icmjrtdr,

Having black bars displayed when watching a Blu-Ray disc is a common occurrence, even with a widescreen television.

You may have heard or seen aspect ratios of 4:3 or 16:9. 4:3 is the ratio of a traditional television that is nearly square. 16:9 is the ratio of most widescreen televisions currently marketed. The reason that even with a 16:9 television Blu-Ray discs are displaying black bars is that many of these discs contain footage that has not been reformatted for television. The screen in a movie theater is even wider than 16:9, and rather than trim the ends, most Blu-Ray discs maintain the entire picture.

Depending on the options available in your particular television, you may be able to find a zoom setting that trims the ends and removes the black bars. It is up to you if you would rather see black bars with the entire picture or lose a small amount of the picture on each side for a full-screen experience.

Hope this helps,
Jason,

SOURCE: Need code for included blu-ray universal to work with an Olevia TV

if Samsung never included the brand Olevia on there remote, then its not going to work because it was never design to work with that brand. The only way to get around that is to get a learning remote or universal remote that has olevia pre program into the remote.. Olevia did come out with some learning remotes that is able to learn from other remotes.. the model its called Olevia RC-LRN ..
This company called Amergence Technology sells the RC-LRN remote made by Olevia contact them at this toll free number 866-965-3842

SOURCE: When trying to connect my 4695D to a new Sony Blu

The problem has been solved. A previous post to this site was having a similar problem hooking up a Playstation Blu Ray player to the same TV.

A solution was posted to that problem and I followed the same instructions.

It has to do with the set up porgram on the Blu Ray component. You need to select Settings then 108024Bit needs to be set to off.

CANNOT GET DISC TO PLAY ON BLU-RAY PLAYER USING SONY TV AND SONY REMOTE

Try disk on other machine to see if it works. If it does then the issue is with your machine. If it does not, then the problem is with your disk.

Yamaha RX-V471 3D video for blu ray will not display on TV

Your Yamaha is the problem here. It cannot handle the signal and process the 3D as it states. What I would do is hook your player direct to your TV in the manner that it works and feed your audio from a different path to maintain surround system. Your tv/dvd player may have an audio out that you can feed back to the Yamaha .

Blu-ray player mode not supported

Is your TV 1080p? If the Blu-Ray is putting out 1080p and your TV only supports 720p/1080i then you will get a message like this. Try changing your settings to 720p while it is connected to a TV that does display correctly, then move it back to the 47 in LCD.

There are no compatibility issues. In your BluRays HDMI audio settings set the audio out to PCM instead of bit stream. The TV cannot decode digital bit stream audio.

Won't play 1080p discs?

From this problem's description I have to assume that either the blu ray player will not play blu rays or the blu ray player will play blu rays but only in 1080i/720p or that you want to know if this blu ray player supports the 1080p resolution.

If the blu ray player is not playing blu rays then you update the firmware and try multiple purchased discs to make sure nothing is wrong with the ones you have been trying. If blu rays that played once will no longer play, then you will need to reset the blu ray player from its menu and possibly by holding down the power button on the front of the unit until the word reset displays on the unit before trying to play the disc again.

If the television is not showing 1080p make sure you are connected with an hdmi cable and that it is the right version hdmi cable for this blu ray player and for your television. Make sure you have chosen 1080p as the resolution to display in the blu ray player's menu. If all of that has been done and 1080p will still not display then it is a case of incompatibility between manufacturers--Sharp and whatever the television is. It would display in 1080p on a Sharp television and most likely on a Samsung and Sony as well. With other brands and even some models of the aforementioned brands (except for Sharp) its a toss up.

I got a second samsung blu-ray player, having liked the first one so much. This new one has been just terrible. Presently neither the sound nor the picture will come on my Proview LCD tv, for some reason...

One thing you might want to try is hooking the player up with the Composite (yellow/white/red) output into the TV. If this gives you a picture, then try a different HDMI cable.

Small picture from player (not wide screen)

Set the all settings to wide, not auto as if the player is set to 4:3 format then this sends a signal to the tv telling it so.Go into the setup menu and choose picture format set to 16:9 or wide. Set the tv to auto and this will keep all picture inputs to origional format. I.E. if it was recorded in 16:9 it will play in 16:9. You could set the tv to 16:9 but it will distort the picture on 4:3 recordings.
