Question about Frigidaire FEX831CS Top Load Stacked Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

I have a Frigidaire stacked unit that I bought in 2005. The screws in the dryer drum keep falling out, their are 3 screws I have lost one, one still in and one I found in my clothes. The unit has caught fire twice from a spark when the screws fell out. Anyone else with this problem?

Take one of the screws down to your local hardware and buy new ones and lock washers (with teeth on the inside so clothes won't catch on them).

I have a stacked Frigidaire FEZ831CA washer/dryer combo and when running the dryer it makes a very high pitched (AND LOUD) screeching sound. Any ideas as to what might be the problem? Thanks, Sean

screeching sound
Sean, Bad felt gasket body to drum, if belt drive on dryer, it could be worn and slipping, making a screech, or if not the belt, the drum may have a worn bearing on its hub allowing it to run crooked and rub where it should not.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

The drum was not positioned correctly to allow installation of the screws. You may be able to salvage the job by removing the screws and starting over but more likely the screws have been cross-threaded and hardware and parts replacement may be necessary.

well first turn the power off without those screws there is a chance you can arc the drum out agianst the element second you have to get at least one screw back in then rotate the drum slowly to line up the other holes do not run without the screws can cause some major damage

Electrolux FGX831FS1 dryer drum, only spins one way manually

Check inside the drum to make sure the three screws in a triangle in the rear center are all there, if they fall out the drum goes off center and the motor can no longer drive it.
This model has no rollers, the front of the drum has plastic glides mounted on the front of the drum that ride on teflon impregnated pads that are glued around the door.
The rear is supported by a steel ball screwed to the rear of the drum (the 3 screws that I think are causing your troubles) that rides in a plastic saddle screwed to the rear of the machine.
If the excess drum movement is only up and down you should replace the front glide system.
Good Luck

Frigidaire combo washer/dryer screws inside come off

The drum shaft came loose from drum. You can YouTube it for procedure of disassembly of dryer. Remount shaft, if screws are bad may need new shaft with screws, make sure it is tight to drum. While you have it apart you can clean out lint.

Dryer won't spin on my kenmore stacked model 417.90812991

This is the 2nd time I have this problem.
IF you look thry the drum to the back you should see 3 screw heads. Mine has one screw still in the hole and 2 empty holes.
This requires the drum to be removed (like take the drier apart). Behind the drum is Asmbly-shaft (ball hitch) (item 32 in the parts list). This what the 3 screws screw into.
I spent 2 days trying to put the screws in without removing the drum not possible (no way to hold the drum in place)
The first time I had to replace the drum because it wore the rim through.
I have to get 3 new screws and some thread locker.
I recommend that you check the screws every month, Use a long phillips screw drive

Unplug unit! Remove top screws and pull off top lid of dryer. Heater terminals should be at top right. Use ohm meter to check resistance. If ohms won't display, then your heater unit probably has an open circuit. For instance, my GLET1031 has a reading of 12.5 ohms.

remove screws holding console on ..2 on bottom rail and 1 in each lower corner of console they are recessed .console will drop slightly and off 1 screw in each corner of front panel be sure to not loose them they go in these spots only..flat heads..recommend removing large front panel between 2 units remove blower housing 2 clips or screws each corner lint screen housing on inside..reach through and remove belt this will make reassembly easier by removing downward pressure on drum ..
