The first thing to do is to go into settings and Reset Picture Settings. If that doesn't fix it, you will need to take it to a repair shop for diagnosis and repair.

Same with my Viera plasma. Some channels re-broadcast shows or movies that look darker. I believe it is the station that is doing that since they looker darker on my TV, yours, and on LCD TVs too. You could possibly brighten your display by choosing different settings in your menu... but what your TV is displaying is correct. It is the broadcaster that perhaps decreasing the signal... since other stations look fine I assume.

Most LCD and PLASMA sets use two boards (some combine them into one board) that drive the Display Panel (the entire front screen unit) so I would suspect one of yours is bad.

The other unpleasant possible cause is where the left board is connected to the Display Panel (entire front screen unit) you have a problem inside that Display Panel and that is fatal as there is no way to get INSIDE the panel---it can cause both lines and a dark picture on one side of the screen.

It may be the backlighting has been readjusted by someone other yourself. Whenever you go on battery, I'm sure you've seen the screen darken a bit. This is the backlighting being turned down to save battery life. There is usually a blue function "fn" key that allows the user to brighten or darken the display. Look at the blue icons in the F1-F12 keys. The one to brighten the display looks light a sun and the one to darken the display looks a full moon eclipsed. Press and hold the fn key and tap the desired function key to brighten or darken the display.

You probably reduced the brightness one time, but you just forgot about it. To make the display brighter, do this:

>on your iPod touch screen, go to Settings.
>once the Settings window is open, you'll see Brightness from the list, tap on it.
>now, you drag the button to make the display darker or brighter. drag it to the left to make it darker, to the right to make it brighter. You'll notice the display darkens / brightens simultaneously as you drag the button.

the light engine is defective if you have black bars that look pink.

I am not sure...but I have the identical problem. I believe the vertical lines are caused by the inverter board and the darkness is caused by the one of the back lights that needs to be replaced. I am tearing my unit apart now and will find out.

Sorry, I can't really help you on the one, all I can say is that I have the exact same problem but it's intermittent. Very strange, sometimes it'll only be on line or two...sometimes they're darker than the screen and sometimes they're lighter...
