I purchased this treadmill 3 months ago but it recently stopped working. It will power up and sometimes run for a few seconds (while making a rattling noise) on a very low speed but will then shut down. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm on the treadmill or not. If I try to speed up the treadmill it won't stay on at all. I have tried the tips if Lifespan's troubleshooting guide (lubricating the belt, cleaning, checking belt alignment, loosening and tightening belt), to no avail. I removed the motor in order to video tape the motor in action. You can see that here (fast-forward 20 seconds). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8WvjYIXm9

The error ERR-1.This error is caused due to motor board getting faulty. And due to motor board getting weak this makes the belt overheated because belt does not get enough power to spin as per the required speed set on the display to spin.
As per the Lifespan treadmill manual it says that lubing the belt helps. But actually this is a temporary solution.Because when you lube the belt it gets frequent movement to spin.It actually gets dried up due to overheat. So lubing makes it spin freely. But it again gets dried up after it gets overheated again. This cycle continues again n again. And at last internal motor coils and connections gets overheated and starts giving burning smell from both the belt and motor.
The exact solution for this problem is two replacement. The motor board including motor and the belt has to be replaced.
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this
solution and show your appreciation.

That should read that I "removed the motor COVER" - duh - not the motor itself.
