STRANGE MESSAGE WHEN PVR TURNS ON

When I turn on the PVR I get a message that says "You are going to enter the hard disk format process. All data in this hard disk will be lost after this process. Please read the user manual to get more information". I can't access my recorded programs, but I can still watch TV through the PVR. Does anyone know what's going on? Why has this just started, apparently for no reason?

SOURCE: Corrupted and unreadable hard drive

Ifyour external hard drive hasn't suffered any physical damage, thendue to a power failure, improperly disconnecting the external harddrive, or a virus, your drive's MBR/boot sector may have beencorrupted (it basically holds information about the drive). Luckilythere are “easy” ways to fix this. Unfortunately, I recently hadto deal with this situation after my external hard drive lost powerwhile in use.
Forme, I had an external hard drive that before the incident, had aFAT32 file system. After it lost power, it was reported in Windows ashaving a 'RAW' file system andwas unreadable/inaccessible and actually asked me if I wanted toformat it (of course not!). After performing some web searches, Ifound the solution to my problem...
Using“dskprobe.exe”, which can be downloaded from Microsoft's website(and should also be on your Windows installation CD), I was able tofix everything, with no data loss, in a matter of minutes:
NOTE:if you don't know what file system (FAT, FAT32, or NTFS) yourexternal hard drive was set to, then it would probably be best tojump to the “Alternate Solution” below as the program used thereshould determine it automatically.

SOLUTION
Formost, if not all, Windows Operating Systems:

ALTERNATESOLUTION (Windows, MAC, LINUX)(FAT, FAT32, NTFS, JFS, etc.)
Ifthe above solution didn't work, or if you want to try a differenteasier program, then download TestDisk v6.11.3. I saw this software while I was writing this response. It's FREEand 100% certified by softpedia.com to have no spyware, viruses, oradware. It has a number of data recovery capabilities. I tested itout on numerous situations by using a thumbdrive filled with dummyfiles. The tests included: deleting the first boot sector, deletingany applicable backup boot sectors, deleting all boot sectors, andperforming these tests on different file systems (FAT/FAT32). Ididn't get a chance to try the NTSF file system though. Afterfollowing the steps/questions in the software I was able to fix thethumbdrive back to its working state every time, for every situation. No loss of data at all. It even allows you to make a drive image ofthe corrupt drive before hand if you want. Therefore, I candefinitely recommend it as a great solution. For information, seebelow and decide if you want to try it out yourself:

***NOTE:As a precaution, try and make backup copies of any necessarysectors before you write to them (ex. in dskprobe: read sector in andthen go to: file->save as). I also suggest you practice what youcan on a usb thumbdrive you don't care about beforehand. You can prepthe thumbdrive by formatting it to the file system you plan onrecovering and inserting dummy files.

*Ifnone of these solutions work. Try downloading and using “Recuva”.It's free/no spyware, etc. You should be able to recover some or allof your files through a time consuming process depending on the sizeto be recovered:

Goodluck!!!

SOURCE: Wiping WD hard drive

I suggest that you use Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN")application to completely Esare the Hard Drive. It is a freeware application.

Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot disk that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction.

Tablet turns on with message DEVICE MAPPING TABLE

The message "DEVICE MAPPING TABLE" typically refers to the process of mapping the physical layout of the storage devices in a computer or tablet. This message may appear during the boot process, indicating that the device is loading the map of where data is stored on the storage devices (such as a hard drive or SSD). This message is generally not a cause for concern and the device should continue to boot normally.

How to format my hard drive in dos

Rita,

Most computer recovery disks will perform the formatting for you. (This depends on the Manufacturer and Model though...)

If you put the recovery disk into the computer CD/DVD Drive and restart the computer - to boot to the disk, it should launch the recovery process and warn you that the hard drive will be erased and all data will be lost. This warning step is the recovery disks way of informing you that it will format the drive.

To boot to the CD/DVD you will need to tell the computer to do that. When the computer first turns on, you should see a brief message at the very beginning of the boot up process. The message will say something like: "Press Del for Boot Device" or "Press F12 for Boot Menu" or something of this sort. If your recovery disk is in the drive and you can get to the boot menu by pressing the key the computer prompts you to press, then you should be able to start up with that recovery disk.

Allowing the recovery disk to run through it's full process should format the hard drive and set your computer straight.

Make sure to run all of your updates once the recovery is complete and also make sure to install and update a good anti-virus software of some sort.

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos restart
note this will erase you operating system you will have to have an operating system disk to load it onto you hard drive or create a partition to load another operating system
note after you have loaded the operating system you must go back and change the first boot device to your hard drive
The BIOS is AMI. Under ADVANCED SETUP:

I dropped 500gb verbatim external drive. It wants me to format the drive. How can i get the data back before i format it? Please help Thank you

Because the first few records stored on the disk-drive have been corrupted (or are physically unreadable), you get the "please format" message. Hopefully, the other 99.9 percent of the data-blocks stored on the disk-drive are OK.

Search online for 'data recovery' software -- it reads through the disk-drive, block-by-block, trying to merge blocks of data back into files that can be copied onto your 'C:' drive.

Format laptop lenovo y550

Note: Format would delete all of the data(like pictures, documents.) from the computer. Make sure, you back up all of your important data before formating the hard drive.
1. Insert operating system disk. 2. Shut down and restart the computer. As soon as, you restart the computer, start tapping 'Spacebar' key. Now, this would start loading from disk. 3.Hit F8 to accept the license agreement. 4.Hit enter 5. Enter Enter again and follow the on screen instruction and this would format your hard drive.
Note: once you format the hard drive, you would need to install drivers as well. Make sure you have the drivers and utilities disk as well.

How do i format my laptop off of the partition on the hard drive. I've managed to hit f 10 and get into the bios but no format option was given

Formatting the hard drive is not a function of the BIOS. You will need to boot the machine from either the Windows CD and do a fresh setup (which will give you the option to format the hard drive) or boot from a bootable CD or floppy disk that has the format command on it. From there you execute the format command and follow the directions.

Message: Oh dear, this hard disk isn't working properly.

I have fixed this, and I hate this player, however this is the solution

I've uploaded ALL YOU'LL EVER NEED on this rapidshare link, I format my player and bringit back to life with only this...
http://rapidshare.com/files/106001227/Player.rar.html

1.- unrar to the player
2.- try if it works, if not go to 2.1
2.1.- install the software, included in the rar file, then try if it works it should

IMPORTANT: when you have manage to make it work do this, it will save you a lot of time

1.- browse your player to the system/data folder and backup those files, if you get any future troubles (like no music found, strange characters instead of artist's list) replace those files with your backup, backup those files always after adding new music!!!

2.- save the rar file I've uploaded, if you have the wmp plugin already installed and you get the "Oh dear this hard disk doesn't work" message again, just format the player, and put every single file from the rar to the player

3.- excuse my english...
any further problems --> msn: [email protected]
