Fan stopped working on Jennifer air downdraft electric cooktop. Elements still work fine. Circuit breaker did not trip. Took switch out of line by directly connecting fan leads. Still did not work when breaker switched on. I assume fan is burnt out. Any other way to check? Are fan and burners on different lines of 240 circuit. Or are each burner on different lines?

Generally there is a plug for the fan motor under the range, the panel where the drawer would be should lift off, you will then see the power to the fan motor. The fan motor is only 120Volts not 220V

always unplug electricity before attempting to repair on any electrical appliance

SOURCE: stove is tripping circuit breaker

if it is an old stove i would say have it serviced/checked over. if it is a newer stove i am guessing the circuit breaker predates it and is rated for the old stove therefore you will need to have a larger circuit breaker installed (by a licenced electrician)

Whirlpool SC8720EDB cooktop stove independent vent switch is not starting downdraft exhaust fan, but the exhaust fan works fine when left side burners were turned on

Can you get to the switch terminals and try jumping them out with a piece of insulated wire? That would tell you if the switch is defective (my suspicion). Please be careful not to touch any live terminals - only the wire insulation you use for the jumper.

Burn knobs and fan turn on, lights are on but the burners don't come on and there is no heat.

hello after looking at your wiring diagram the only thing it can be is a blown breaker in your home. half of it works off 120v of the 240v circuit and the heating elements off the other 120v line. so you are only getting half the power to your unit. turn the breakers off and on see if maybe it just tripped.but its not the cooktop. hope this helps please dont forget to rate me thanks ken

Some times a breaker can be partially tripped and not visible . You should try turning the breaker off and on several times.

All 4 elements suddenly won't heat--worked fine this am. Circuit breaker was tripped. Reset, now lights on knobs come on, but still no heating.

Likely a short in the junction box. Turn off the breaker and open the junction box for inspection. Problem is likely at the cooktop end of the feed from the breaker.

Check voltage at the junction. Should one side of the corcuit be dead, turn off power and call an electrician as the wiring probably has had a short due to staple or nail penetration and would be a fir hazard. Call an electrician if this is the case.

Electric shock from cooktop, didn't trip breaker,

Where did you smell the smell was it from the fan switch. turn the power off and take the screw out of where the fan switch is and check the wires to the switch and the switch itself. sometimes the jennair cooktops have issues with that switch. let me know how it goes

Blown accessory fuse? jenn air cooktop jed8430adb

the unit doesnt have any internal fuses. you have a house fuse blown or circuit breaker that tripped. the fan switch can be found online or from your local parts house and make sure you get the clips to hold it to the mounting tabs.
next time you get ready to work on it, just make sure and turn off the power first as you will touch the metal terminals to the frame again.
