My lexmark x5495 will not scan document if i chose to scan on acrobat reader. It partly carries out the process as far as Abby processing document but then does not display the scanned document. it scans on word, excel etc

It could be due to the printer driver not installed properly. Try to uninstall your existing Lexmark printer driver first before installing the new driver. To do that, go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark X5400 Series Printer > Tools > Uninstall. After the uninstall process, restart your pc when prompted.
To re-install the printer driver, please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark X5495 Printer Driver on your computer. Select your operating system > click on "FILTER" > click on the driver under Recommended Downloads > download and execute the file. Simply follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.
Then try to print a document to verify that the printer driver is properly installed.

You'll need to scan the document with an OCR software package (Optical character recognition) that will recognize the letters themselves and transmit them to word processing application, such as Word for Windows. Most scanner packages come with some form of OCR utility, so check your installed software. You may already be set up!

The scan destination on your computer may vary depending on the path that you set. This article in the Lexmark website on How to Scan Using the Lexmark X5400 Series All-In-One might help you understand the process. Notice Step 6 on Scanning a Document, that's the part where you set your preferred scan destination - either in your Documents folder, on the Desktop or your personal folder.

Do you have MS Office 2003 or 2007? If so, there is a Microsoft Document Imaging tool that you can use to scan text documents. You can also search www.download.com for free OCR tools you can use for the same purpose.

I have this problem in Vista Home Premium with a Lexmark Z611. What I do is go into the Task Manager (right-click an empty spot on the taskbar or Ctrl-Alt-Delete and then click Task Manager in Vista; Ctrl-Alt-Delete in XP) and go to the Processes tab. From there I find the process that begins with the letters lxb (lxbcpswx.exe on mine), right-click it and select End Process. That should purge your print queue and let you start over.

The 4550 will not allow multi page scanning into a single doc using the provided software. You should try another scan software that is TWAIN or WIA compatible. Those should work okay if you are using a USB connection.
