try these

Open Start /Control Panel / Sound - check that mute is off and volume is up.
Check drivers in device manager for problematic drivers. If non found the try updating the sound drivers. Reboot system....
If problem still persists then go to maufacturer web and search documentation for specific issues.

you can go to the website and redownload the audio driver for your laptop this is easily done by going to toshiba.com and download a new audio driver below i have a link to the website with your sound driver

just about all the satelite laptops by toshiba use realtek audio. try toshiba support site and download any realtek audio driver. i have used the same driver on many of them

i don't have driver for biometric coprocessor, base system device

Go to the Toshiba website and download the updated drivers for your system. They are free.

Download the chipset drivers for you motherboard, and then reinstall the audio drivers. This should fix the problem. If you don't know what motherboard you have, download everest. The program will most likely have a link to your motherboards manufacturer.

Did you reload the Toshiba drivers? Go to Toshiba.com, U.S. Services and Support, Laptop Computers. Once at the Support page, select Download. I couldn't find a listing for the Portege M600, but there is for the M700. Look on the bottom of the laptop - I've seen Toshiba's use many different numbers.
