My PS3 will not play sounds on games. I have reset the sound settings to output HDMI and I can hear the click when I move around the setting screen. I can also hear the playstation 3 startup but no sound from the game when it starts. DVDs and Blueray play sound just fine but nothing from any of my games.

1. In the PS3's XMB, go to the left and select Settings.
2. In Settings, go into SoundSettings.
3. Select Audio Output Settings, and select the type of cable you use.
4. The next page will give you an option for Automatic or Manual. Select Manual.
5. The next page will give you a list of all the audio settings the PS3 can output. Unselect every option except the ones grayed out, which are required.
6. The next page will ask you to confirm the selections, say yes.
7. (OPTIONAL) For those using HDMI cables, now that we have set them to default settings, we can actually start the process over again, but instead of selecting Manual we will select Automatic. This will force the PS3 to scan the devices again and set up the correct list of output modes.

SOURCE: Games run on hdmi, but not Blu-ray movies

You most likely have the updated drivers. You may have to go and change a setting. I found an answer on the PS3 website that may be of some use to you. I hope this helps you: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&message.id=1662191 From the site: "go to bd/dvd setting and set the "108024hz" option off"

How to you connect PS3 to to model 37PD5000

Good day!!!

Please try this procedure to connect the PS3 to TV..

The PS3 has a Blu-ray drive that can be used not only for playing games but also for watching high-definition movies. The best way to connect a PS3 to a high-definition viewing device such as a video projector is through the PS3's high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) output. The HDMI connection can transmit up to 1080p high-definition from the PS3 to the video projector using a single cable. Attaching and setting up the HDMI cable will only take a few minutes and will let you watch high-definition video from the PS3 on the video projector.

  1. Connecting HDMI
    • Attach one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI output connector of the PS3. Turn the HDMI cable around if it does not slip right into the HDMI output, because the HDMI cable can only fit into an HDMI connector one way.
Attach the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input connector that is on the video projector. Make sure both sides of the HDMI cable is securely pushed into the connectors of the PS3 and of the video projector. Turn on the video projector. Press the "Menu" button on the video projector's remote. Navigate to the "Sources" setting on the video projector's Menu. Select "HDMI" from the "Sources" setting. Press the "Menu" button on the remote control again to exit the Menu.
    Adjusting the PS3
    • Turn on the PS3. Wait for the "Home" menu to appear on the video projector, although the quality of the video seen from the video projector will be muddied and dark. Navigate from the "Home" menu to the "Systems" icon using the game controller and select the "Display Settings" tab. Choose "Video Output Settings" from the list presented in the screen that appears. Press the right side of the directional pad on the game controller to move to the next screen.
Choose "HDMI" from the list presented in the screen that appears. Press the right side of the directional pad on the game controller to move to the next screen. Choose "Automatic" from the list presented in the screen that appears. Press the right side of the directional pad on the game controller to move to the "Confirmation" screen. Press the "X" button on the game controller to make the settings active. Return to the PS3's "Home" menu.
    Watching the PS3
    • Insert a Blu-ray disc into the slot at the front of the PS3. Wait as the Blu-ray disc begins to play the video content on the video projector from the PS3 through the HDMI cable.

I was switching my ps3 from hdmi output to the red, yellow and white cords and after i accepted i switched my tv to av1 and there was picture and sound but it then asked me what format and i selected 1080p...

Easy to fix so don't worry ;)

While the PS3 is off (solid red led)

Hold down the power button until you hear the SECOND BEEP, quickly release.

This will reset the video settings back to default.

My Playstation 3 has stopped playing speech sounds properly. On FIFA there is no commentary or David Hayter EA Sports intro. And in Metal Gear Solid 4 during the cutscenes as well as the Codec, most speech...

I hope this helps:

On the XMB, go to
Settings; Display Settings; and choose Video Output Settings.

- Click Video Output Settings.
- Choose HDMI
- Choose Custom
- Tick all of the boxes - Only the ones that your TV supports.
- Move on and the PS3 will test the settings. Screen will go blank and return.
- Press X to save settings.
- When it has finished saving the video settings, choose "Set Audio Output Settings"
- Choose HDMI
- Choose Manual
- Tick the boxes that your TV can support and move on and save settings.
Tip: If you aren't sure which ones your TV supports, go back and choose Automatic and then Press Enter to save settings.

If it fails, call Sony. If its a particular game, then maybe a patch is needed for that game.

My ps3 has no picture but has sound

you can try this..

leave a testimonial if it works.

if it doesn't write back and we will try another idea I have.

From the PS32_bing.gif main menu:

1. Settings->Sound Settings->Audio Output Settings
2. Change it from HDMI to Digital Out (Optical). I do NOT have optical hooked up on my PS3, so if you have it hooked up, you may want to unhook it.. probably shouldn't matter.
3. I left what was defaulted: "Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1 kHz" and 48kHz
4. Right on the D pad (X selects/unselects options) to move to the next screen.
5. A confirmation page, hit X to Enter, saving the changes.
6. Start up a game, you shouldn't hear any sound (as expected)
7. Exit the game, then go back to Audio Output Settings and switch back to HDMI. I selected "Automatic" for "method for setting the output format."
8. A confirmation page, hit X to Enter, saving the changes.
9. Start up a game, you should now hear audio with your game (once again).

My issue I believe was caused because I had been using a different TV2_bing.gif for a while. Somehow, when I switched back to my original TV, the settings did not automatically reset back.

Good Luck!

No sound with games

go into the system settings on your ps3 and check the sound options, make sure the sound output for games is set correctly, check any of the other settings that applies to sound output. some games are encoded in surround sound, also check to make sure your ps3 has the latest updates.

My ps3 has no picture or sound...

if there's absolutely nothing on the TV screen, then most probably the video output is different then the cables you are using (eg: video output HD and you are using AV cables). Are you sure your TV is set correctly? like using HD cable you have to choose HDMI or AV cable choose AV. Anyway, When the PS3 is on, turn it off by pressing and holding the power button on the front (so the light turns red) you will hear beep sound ( I can't remember how many but not once). This should reset the Video output to AV. Swithch to AV cables (if you're using HD). Usually if the system is set to AV output and you switch to HDMI cables, the system recognizes that and swithches to HD output. But if it's set to HD output and you are using AV cables, it doesn't switch back; that is what my system does.
