Make sure that HOLD function isn't on.
Connect it to the computer and reset it again, leaving it connected.
Check the Sony Support Web site to see if there are any available firmware updates for your model.
If possible, instead of connecting the USB cable to the computer, connect it to a USB AC adapter (if available) and try to charge it.
2GB Walkman MP3 Player
Testimonial: "verified hold buton was off.. the unit has the most recent software update, still no power. The only time there's ever something on the display is when unit is plugged in via USB... The display shows the unit is fully charged... I'm unable to get any settings of any kind. Any other ideas? thanks,"
I'll try charging directly from an ac outlet to see if that might have something to do with it... thanks,
Good idea about running it from an AC charger. Some players can't be operated (as players) when they're connected by USB to a computer but that shouldn't happen using a charger. I suspect the NWZ-B105F battery is faulty. It's not a user-replaceable battery according to Sony. I contacted Sony support about it - they suggested returning it to their service centre in Texas. Details follow: Sony factory service center where you can ship the unit. Sony Consumer Direct Return Center 10227 Crossroads Loop Suite D Laredo TX 78045 Contact number of Sony service and repair team. 1-888-222-7669
I couldn't locate any replacement batteries on eBay but I was searching by player model number. The original battery is described by Sony as a 240mAh lithium-ion unit. Nothing special there apart from its size.

download the nwd-b105 firmware 1.1 (google it) and once you have it connect your mp3 player to an usb port of your pc. run the firmware file you downloaded and check the "delete files" option and run the firmware. you will lose all your files but your mp3 should be functional again. remember that when you do a firmware update you must keep your mp3 connected to the pc, also a if there is for some reason a power failure you may brick your mp3 player. my mp3 player had teh same problem as yours and i fixed it this way. the reason this happens is that sometimes the antivirus delete some system files from your mp3 and thus it cant access its database causing an error and shutting down the mp3 unit. hope this helps!!

I first found that when I plugged my player into my computer it registered it as a MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) device and in turn never showed up as a storage device on my computer. I fixed this by going into my Control Panel -> System Icon -> Hardware Tab -> Device Manager button.
Clicking on the "System Devices" tab should have "Walkman" or MTP device. Right click on it and go to properties, now before doing anything it should say "Location -- ------ Location 0 (Walkman)" if not try unplugging the walkman and see if the MTP device you're looking at is removed from the list, just to make sure it's the right device we're looking for.
If you've confirmed it's the Walkman, click on the "Driver tab" and click on "Update Driver...". Then click on the "Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced)" option and click "Next". Now select the "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." and click next. It should now bring up 2 driver choices, one being "MTP Device" and the other "USB Mass Storage Device". Select the USB option and select next, it will then install your walkman as a USB storage device and after that's done. It should be a matter of unplugging and plugging the Walkman back in and it should show up on your storage options in "My Computer"

Hey! We've had a similar dilemma, and we solved it by connecting walkman to computer, then going into 'device manager' uninstalling the walkman, then remove it from usb port and re-connect it.
The computer will then 'recognize new hardware' and automatically re-install the walkman. Good as new!
Hope this helps!

make sure your downloading it to the right folder on the mp3 player its usualy the music folder or you can try and use windows media player here are some instructions for that option.
--**Windows Media Player**--
If you have a large playlist to transfer, you may prefer to do it from your media player, such as Windows Media Player. Once your MP3 player is connected to the computer, open Windows Media Player. Click on the "Sync Music" tab. Drag songs that you want from your Windows Media Library over to the "Sync Music" column to create a playlist. Click the "Begin Sync" tab at the bottom once you have all of the songs on your playlist. This action will sync all of the songs to your MP3 player with one click. Disconnect your device once songs have been transferred by clicking on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the bottom-right side of the desktop tray.
