On/off swirch quit working-won't turn on

Bring both together. Take out all batteries. Put batteries back in. Press all the buttons.

sounds as though you've shorted they leds , did you have the battery disconnected when doing this change over?

you need to find out if you are getting voltage to motherboard may be a bad jack if you do not have the tools bring to a repair shop

the circuit board on the back of the panel is no good or there may be a loos connection at the plug that connects to it.

Have you checked the alternator, I work at a auto parts store and see this all the time, check the inline fuel filter, also have your checked the coil, mine went out and that was the last thing I checked but am back on the road.

My A710 did exactly the same thing. Spoke to Canon support. According to them you have to use Canon 2500 mah batteries (quite expensive - need a different charger as well). I've just bought new rechargable batteries from Sanyo (Eneloop pre-charged). And it solved my problem. I've also changed the batteries quite a few times and it never worked. But this did solve the problem for me.

take it back to the place that you bought it. Sounds like you are having a issue with your motherboard.. If you can take it back i highly recommend it. A replacement motherboard could cost a high price depending on what computer you own.
