The programme times for all programme range between 41-46 minutes instead of around 80 minutes. When you turn the machine on no water comes into the machine.

So this is a problem I identified in Miele's mid size ranged canister cleaners. Not only the S318...
If you go about cleaning on the highest power setting the engine will overheat after 5-10 minutes. It then will need around 20-30 minutes to cool down before you can use it again.
Tip: Don't run the machine on 100% power, instead turn the setting to around 80-90% and then you can enjoy good suction un-interrupted.
You can choose the right programme for any type of laundry following the descriptions on the washing programme tables (see «Washing Programmes»).
Turn the programme selector dial to the required programme. The programme selector determines the type of washing cycle (e.g. water level, drum movement, number of rinses) and the washing temperature according to the type of laundry.
The pilot light of button 8 starts blinking.
The selector dial can be turned either clockwise or anticlockwise. Position "0" to Reset programme/ Switching OFF of the machine. At the end of the programme the selector dial must be turned to position "0", to switch the machine off.
If you turn the programme selector dial to another programme when the machine is working, the yellow pilot light of button 8 will blink 3 times and the message Err is displayed on the display to indicate a wrong selection. The machine will not perform the new selected programme.
try unplugging the machine for 10 minutes, plug it back in and see if it will reset,if not you could have a button stuck inor a bad touch panel, send the model number next time located around the door opening.
I had exactly the same problem, found the answer on another website. The filter had a small sock stuck in it, stoppin the ppump from turning and draining the water out. Lever off the front panel right at the bottom of the washine machine, then unscrew the round black plug, lots of water will come out. Pull out the black thing and stick you fingers inside and pull out watever is blocking the pump. Turn off the electrics first. Mine now works fine again. :)
