What model are you referring to? In general. When you load a document you get a beep and the screen will change waiting for you to enter the fax number. If this does not happen then the document detect sensor is not being activated so the machine does not know there is a doc on it. Open the document cover and look for a long black arm hanging down or standing up. Make sure it moves. There will be two other sensors also with black arms . make sure they are also free to move. If they are sticking then investigate as to why. use NO lubricants. just clean.

SOURCE: Fax Not working

Copying Documents If you make copies of multiple documents at a time, the number of pages the fax can scan into memory varies depending on the scanning resolutions as follows: * STANDARD and FINE result in the same resolution when making copies
* If MEMORY FULL appears on the LCD when making copies, reduce the number of documents to be copied or reduce the amount of total copies.

  1. Lift up the document tray.

  2. Insert the top of the document, face up, into the ADF (1) until a beep is heard.
  3. Adjust the document guide to the width of the document.

  4. Press <Resolution> to select the resolution.
You can select [STANDARD], [FINE] or [PHOTO].
  5. Press <Start/Copy>.
  6. Enter the number of copies (up to 99) using the numeric buttons.
To make a correction to the number of copies, press <Clear> and re-enter the number.
  7. Press <Start/Copy>.
To stop copying anytime, press <Stop>. If the document does not eject, press <Start/Copy> for a few seconds, then the fax will feed out the document.
  8. The new resolution will remain until it is changed.

SOURCE: auto feed of outgoing fax document.

Replacing the roller can be prety extensive work. Try to check and make that the pick-up roller on the bottom is flat across sometimes it can get turns backwards and it has a round side that will not grasp the paper. If this is ture just take your finger and push the roller forwards. You can alo take a clean wipe and wipe off all of the rollers the rollers are made to be a little tacky when they start to get a little older dust can build up on them causing them not to grab the paper

SOURCE: Display ... ''clear paper jam''

First clear the possible paper jam using a air blower on the rollers and sensors most possible cause is the paper dust which block the sensors. then do a power cycle by unplugging the cable and leave it turned off for 5 mins and then reconnect, it should take care of the issue.

I receive out of paper message with paper loaded and ready

Try these steps :

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

I have just purchased ink cartridge 830 black for canon ip 1800 but the lights are blinking orange please tell me why this is happening

I received this response from canon.com. Hope it helps you.

If the paper feed rollers become dirty, they may not be able to properly
feed paper due to the feed roller's slippage. If paper does not feed
correctly, perform the following to clean the paper feed rollers:

1. Open the Printer properties.

For Windows Vista

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
'Control Panel', 'Hardware and Sound', and then click on 'Printers'.

Note: If you are in 'Classic' view, Click 'Printers' directly from the
'Control Panel'.

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Home Edition

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
'Control Panel,' 'Printers and Other Hardware,' and 'Printers and
Faxes.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows XP Professional Edition

a. Click 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen, and
'Printers and Faxes.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Preferences' from the menu that appears.

For Windows 2000

a. Click / Select 'Start' from the bottom left of the Windows screen,
and 'Settings,' then 'Printers.'

b. Click your right mouse button on the listing for your printer, and
then select 'Properties' from the menu that appears.

2. Click the 'Maintenance' tab and click 'Roller Cleaning'.

3. Remove all sheets of paper from the auto sheet feeder.

4. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

Note: Clicking 'OK' will activate the paper feed rollers 30 times. This
activation will take about 90 seconds. Do not perform other operations
until this operation has finished.

5. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

6. After the continuous paper feeding operations in step 5 have
finished, load three sheets of plain paper and click 'OK'.

7. Confirm the following message, and click 'OK'.

Note: The following message is displayed when the paper is fed and ejected.

8. Click 'OK'.

Roller Cleaning is completed.

If the issue continues to persist, try fanning the paper before
reseating in the automatic sheet feeder.

Follow these steps to fan the paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder(ASF):

1. Remove all documents from the ASF.

2. Check for any obstructions.

3. Fan out the sheets of paper so that they do not stick together.

4. Align the edges of the paper.

5. Insert the document stack, face up, into the ASF until you hear a
beep.

6. Adjust the document guides to the width of the document.

If fanning the paper does not help resolve the issue then the iP1800
printer will require service.

PAPER FEED

Assuming that you know where the paper gets feed in, I usually use this trick to start a new roll of paper.
First, tear off the end of the new roll so that there isn't any glue stuck on the paper.
Then, fold the tip of the paper like an arrow. (Fold one side to the middle and the other side to the middle so both sides meet in the middle.
Then, place the paper into the slot where the paper feeds in.. (Usually goes under the printer assembly) and then hit the PAPER FEED button at the same time. If the paper is in the correct slot, the paper should start feeding the paper all the way through.
Hope this helps.
Have a good day.

Red "Paper" light blinking Brother HL-2040

I agree with another su=olution. The paper light was blinking on and off sugesting a paper jam. Paper had jammed in the back roller and displaced the small lever out of its slot.
Open rear cover, open paper guide by pulling it downwards so you can see the rollers, In the middle of the guide you will see a black lever about 25mm long to the right of this you will see a small slot. The guide will have been pushed to the left of this slot and the Plastic cam will be bowing toward the front of the printer (about 3mm). You need to pull the 25mm lever towards the rear of the printer and then slide the plastic cam to the right so the blade part of the cam slides into its correct slot. The blade is about half a mm thick and the slot is the same and is about 60mm to the right of the lever Use a torch to see it easier. This is a 2 minute job once you see what is wrong.
Hope we have helped someone out there fix a printer
