Sirius sportster 5 is now taking 45 minutes to power on after starting the car. It is taking longer and longer to come on. Any suggestions?

This radio is rarely removed from it's docking station. It's a little over 4 years old. I had no problems until last fall. The unit would initially take 20 minutes to come on after the car is started. It's wired to come on when the car starts. It now takes 45 minutes. Any suggestions on what the problem is.

SOURCE: Power but no signal

I am running into the same exact issue. I have had my Sportster about 14 months now and this is the first problem I've encountered. We had a cold night in the low 20s and the next morning the Sportster started in with these issues. It's been two weeks now and I have the same exact issues (have power, all connections in tact, no "no signal" message, etc.). Sirius recommended a factory reset through the menu option. I was able to do that, but the problem was not corrected. If anyone has any advice here, please let us know..... Thank you. -Peter

SOURCE: SIRIUS S50 radio car kit won't turn on

It may be that the dock isn't working, I would return it for a new one to the place that you bought it from to make sure that you have a dock that works.

SOURCE: sirius s50 problems

Sirius S50 sucks...and Sirius customer service sucks! I bought this radio less then a year and a half ago to never hear music now! I've spent hours on the phone with them...it would work somewhat for a day then nothing! They finally...after another hour and some change on the phone again this evening decide they will send me a new radio with a complimentary installation card. Great I thought...until I see the radio they are sending to replace what I have. Like they are doing me a favor...they are getting rid of their own trash, reconditioned out dated radio! Wonderful service...damn I can get any more sarcastic then I am at the moment! Let me tell you my plan...because I was going to cancel my service right then and there! I'm using that damn card towards installing the new radio the **** way but to also 'un hard wire' the S50 so my ****'s back in place...then I'll come home, take the half *** **** out, put it back in the box...ship the **** back and cancel my damn service. If they cared about this client...they sure didn't show it! If I treated all the customers I service daily this way...hell I'd be out of a job!

SOURCE: SIRIUS Sportster "Acquiring Signal"

Let me save you $30.00. A new antenna will not help, nor will cleaning the contacts. I just did both of those and it did not help. I have mine in the freezer right now cooling it down. Sirius told me that I should not leave it in the car because it gets to hot. They told me to buy another unit....

SOURCE: sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Sirius does not stand behind their products, There is no out of warranty repair for their radios,  and they do not offer sites for repair. Seems  like this is a definite problem with this model. Their solution is to buy a new radio,(with all the new-docking,boombox etc) accessories. also they charge $75.00 to change to the new radio.I liked my sportster 1 because of the FM modulator. It just had to be centrally located and all the radios in my home picked it up(no docking) the new radios require $50.00 docking stations for each stereo location and radio location, unless you bring a boombox everywhere, and the sound isn't the same.    I feel there should be a class action lawsuit against Sirius for these reasons and I might look into it. What do all you think?

My sirius radio sportster works sometimes and others doesn't

Buy radio shack electronic contact cleaner (in a can) and spray a small amount on the male connector from the antenna wire, and spray a small amount on the male connector in the base of the Sportster that the sportster interfaces with. Place the antenna connector onto the base unit and remove it several times and swirl it while connected. Place the sportster into and remove it from the base several times. This usually will fix the issue. Sat signals are extremely sensitive to the slightest oxidation or dirt or whaterver on that tiny antenna connection point.

Sirius Sportster 5 won't power up.

Check the fuse in the power to the dock. They blow out all the time.

No Power...Keep Blowing Fuses

you have a live going to ground meaning a live wire is touching another wire or touchin the caseing thus blowing your fuses

Sportster randomly turns off.

Remove the batteries from the boombox. If there is no batteries in the boombox, and it still does this, then the boombox itself is no longer any good.

Power but no signal

I work for sirius so I know about all of these different issues and the most common one is the connections. It is imperative that the radios be connected to power with the cig lighter adapter. This adapter had circuitry in it that lowers the cars 12 volts to 5 volts which the sirius unit ooerates on. The old units were 12 volt and could hard wired into the vehicles fuse block, but all of the new radios operate on 5 volts. If this is not the issue with either of you then you have defective units. Being that all warranty replacement are with remanufactured units, your chance of getting a problematic unit increases after the initial return of your new unit.

Sportster 4 not working...

I had the same issue. This is what Sirius calls a "Frozen Unit". There is no bypass, unfortunately, and it must be returned.

I had mine for 3 days and it froze on the Sirius Logo screen when booting up. If you bought the unit from Sirius, you must contact their E-Commerce department. If bought from a retailer, take it back to the store.

Sorry, mate.

Power supply to Sirius Radio

yes, some sirius radios work on 5 volts, and some work on 12 volts. Your sportster replay is a 5 volt unit. If you trace that wire back, you will find a cigarette lighter plug with a transformer built into it, with either wires soldered to the terminals, or a female cig plug wired up behind the dash. Whatever sirius unit you plan on hooking up, I strongly reccommend using the transformer that it came with......however if you're willing to take a chance, it's most likely 5 volts.

Sirius Sportster

Unfortunately this is a fairly common problem in the Sportster, caused by worn contacts in the tuner. Sometimes you can temporarily resolve the problem by wedging a thin piece of cardboard behind the tuner in the cradle, to create a better contact; but eventually it will just wear out again.
