I WANT TO USE THE REMOTE FOR MY DIRECTV GENIE HD DVR MODEL HR44-700. I DO NOT THINK CODES IN THE REMOTE WILL WORK AS I THINK THE REMOTE WAS MADE BEFORE DIRECT TV EXISTED. I DO NOT KNOW WHO THE MANUFACTURED OF THE GENIE IS. I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PUT IN NEW CODES WITH THE JP1 CONNECTOR. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO EVEN SET UP THE JP1 CONNECTOR CABLE ON MY COMPUTER. WHEN I TRIED CALLING THE NUMBER IN THE REMOTE MANUAL I NEVER GOT AN ANSWER AND GAVE UP. URC'S WEBSITE IS NO HELP TO ME.
Try these instructions and see if they work for your genie remote.
First, have your Genie Mini receiver connected and powered on. Next, grab your RC71 remote and simultaneously hold the "MUTE" + "ENTER" buttons until you see a box appear on your TV screen that says "Applying IR/RF Setup. Please Wait" (this appears after about 5 seconds of holding those buttons). Once complete another dialog box will appear and read, "Your remote is now setup for RF." Click "SELECT" to exit that screen. Next, click the "MENU" button, scroll down to "Settings & Help", then click on "Settings", scroll down to and click on "Remote Control", then click "Program Remote". Next you will have two options, either "Program TV" or "Program Audio Device". Click "Program TV", this takes you to a screen where you need to select what BRAND your TV is. After you have selected your TV brand you will have to select the TV Model ( I recommend looking at the sticker on the back of your TV for the accurate Model number or using your current TV remote to find the model number from the menu screen on your TV for fastest and best results). Once the correct model number is selected, AIM your RC71 remote at the TV and it will AUTOMATICALLY program!
Testimonial: "I'm sorry. In my first sentence I used 'THE' referring to the remote in the topic, the URC-9910. So the sentence reads as if I wanted to used the remote for the Genie to operate the Genie. Very Confusing!"
Hello, follow this link to download the manual and the codes for your remotes:
http://www.ofausa.com/remote.php?type=URC3220
just right click and save as on the download links.
if this does not work you can try the search method,
you do
this by either holding down the device button eg: TV or if you have one
the "magic" button for three seconds, a light should then flash twice
to say you have done this correctly.
then press the keys 991 then the power button.
you must now press the channel up key (ch+) possibly upto 150 times while the remote cycles through every code.
Once your tv or device switches off stop pressing the ch+ key and press the power button to make sure it switches back on,
(if you press ch+ too many times you can go back by pressing ch-)
When complete press the magic or device key again to save the settings (light should flash twice to confirm)
Many thanks
Mark

I hope this accompanies my original post. I meant to say that I wanted to use my URC-9910 remote for my DirecTV Genie... Instead I used the thinking it would refer back to the topic of : Problem with One For All URC-9910 LCD Remote Control NEED TO ADD CODE TO URC REMOTE. Instead I ended up asking how to use the remote for the Genie on the Genie, which I'm sure left everyone wondering just what I wanted to know. And I'm sorry for the caps. I wasn't 'screaming' I normally type in caps because they are easier for me to read and just didn't notice I was doing it on a forum.
I give up. I do not know how to go back and edit and apparently cannot correct via a comment where I can only read part of one long line. How do I delete my question?
To Mark Stevens. I clicked 'No, answer wasn't helpful' thinking it would open a comment box as their was not one. You instructions were perfect except for refering to the wrong model URC. All I wanted to say was that I had already tried that and it didn't work. No code orogrammed into the URC-991 will work for a DirecTV Genie DVR.
